It would depend upon the situation. If the government became TRULY tyranical, of course I would side with the people; but if it is a case like these idiots calling for secession because they don't like the policies of our President, for POLITICAL reasons; absolutely not. Those people are traitors, and should be treated like them.

As of this writing, nine people didn't realize this was a trick question. In America, the people are supposed to be the government. :-D

I think we're gonna find that a lot of the state level authorities are with the people as well. That would be our best hope to defy the fed tyranny. It may not come down to a physical fight but definitely an act of civil disobedience at the state level governments. We can only hope that power is returned to the states where the founding fathers meant it to be.

You ask a dangerous and BROAD question. The choices are too limited. Those people in Egypt protested their government and ousted Mubarak. those in Libya protested Ghaddafi and out he went. But to say that there are only two sides is misleading.

In Egypt's case (as well as Libya) the PEOPLE won over their governments but I hardly think they WON. A MOB can defy it's government but does that mean that the PEOPLE of that land is represented? There are a myriad of ways to "attack" the government by as many different people groups. They may defeat their leadership but does that mean that they AGREE with each other? As the adage is, The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

People rising up against government may be anarchy. Citizens opposing government, even to the point of arms, is revolution. The question is, who is rising up and why; against whom and what? I am not for anarchy but I am not opposed to calling the government to the carpet either. I prefer peace but demand freedom. The government that doesn't serve the people is not a government that deserves to be followed. But the answer to it is not lawless challenge or anarchy. So, I will side on the side of RIGHT. And that side is one of freedom and republicanism as defined under our constitution and for the good of the people of this exceptional nation.

The best way to take back the country is to do it economically, starve the bastards, just like John Galt! No one has to get hurt, and the point will be profoundly made.

Because, in this country, government is supposed to be of the people, by the people, and for the people, so if the people rise up against the government, then that is obviously not a legitimate government,

The people as a rule but then again it depends on the people and their thought processes that will affect my decisions.
    iranian revolution
Remember, it was the Iranian people that rose up against their government and look what they got. It could happen here as well if the people side with the wrong crowd.
