If a liberal would shut up and listen long enough for you to teach them one thing, what would it be?

they think they need to be "taught" something about as much as these conservative twits think that they need to be taught; its the same on both sides, sweetpea:)

You know, if I could tell a conservative anything it'd be: if you want to have a productive conservation, then it's probably not best to begin with a shut up. But that's probably not what such a person is searching for; it's far more likely this person just uses politics as a target for his or her misdirected anger.

I did read the question. It suggests to me all liberals are just spewing idiocy and should all just shut up since they are all uniformly ignorant and loud. Not a great way to start a conversations if you ask me.

I dont know anything about your phoenetic challenges, but she's interpreting the general statement, and says nothing about beginning with 'shut up'.

No it's implied and you implied it again. The question suggests they are loud because it implies liberals never shut up long enough to hear anyone else's opinion. I'd call that loud. The questions suggests idiocy and ignorance because it implies they refuse to become informed, that's both ignorance and idiocy.

You implied them and you did use shut up. I'm just saying if anyone actually wants to have a productive conversations, then it's best not to begin provocatively. since you began rather provocatively i don't think you are looking for any sort of dialogue with liberals.

Fair enough but if i made your question into statement:
If a conservative would shut up, then I could teach him/her something and you were a conservative, would you really think i was looking for a productive conversation?
No, of course not, you'd assume I was liberal or at least someone who disliked conservatives. you'd find that statement provocative and find many unflattering implications in it. No productive dialogue would be likely to begin.

If I was looking for a productive dialogue between conservatives and liberals, then i would phrase it like: If you could teach/tell a conservative one thing about liberalism what would that be? I think that gives a better chance for a productive conversation. something this divided country desperately needs more of.

I think stereotyping an entire group of ppl is wrong, but undeniably there are liberals out there who are quite arrogant and jerks who are conservatives. I don't doubt that you have seen both. But if you observe correctly you'd see both conservatives and liberals who aren't quite so terrible.

Yes that's true liberals do claim intellectual superiority more frequently (btw i think its a false claim, there are dumb and smart ppl on both sides and I'd guess their numbers are about even on both sides too). But I think liberals claim an academic intellectual superiority more often because, as a group, they care more about this type of intelligence. Conservatives more often claim they have a different type of intelligence that they value more, an intelligence rooted in experience, religion or morality, and common sense.

It makes sense both sides claim they have their favored type of intelligence.
