According to infoplease.com there were 105,480,101 occupied “dwelling units” in the United States own guns. Eight years on, it would seem 110,000,000 occupied dwellings would be a reasonable estimate. The Census estimates the current US population at 306,000,000, so the mean population of each “dwelling” is 2.9 individuals.

We can assume that everyone who lives in a home with a gun owner has exposure to the guns in the home. While that begs the question of how many gun owners there are, the real question then becomes “What percentage of American homes contain one or more guns?” And that’s a tricky one!

“Is there a gun in your home?” would have been a nosy question before the big gun control drives of the 1960’s. After those drives, gun owners fear of gun confiscation has been so great that a high percentage of gun owners will deny that fact to everyone not known to be a fellow gun crank. Especially those California, Illinois, and New Jersey residents who have had a gun under the mattress since 1967.

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's Liberty teeth and the keystone under Independence."

    George Washington

"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

    Thomas Jefferson

    ** ** ** ** **

    What I believe:

Your unalienable rights are established by your Creator and are not subject to be given, removed or altered by any man or government. An entitlement is granted by government and is only an entitlement as long as it is granted.

Mankind has the right to self-government, to bear arms for self defense and to own, develop and dispose of property. We have the right to make personal choices, of free conscience and to choose our profession. We have the right to choose a mate and beget our own kind.

We have the right to assemble, to petition and of free speech. We have the right to, but not always the benefit of, a free press.

We have the right to enjoy the fruits of our labor, to explore and develop the natural resources of the earth, to improve our position through barter and sale, the right to contrive and invent.

We have the right to assemble, to petition and of free speech. We have the right to, but not always the benefit of, a free press.

We have the right to enjoy the fruits of our labor, to explore and develop the natural resources of the earth, to improve our position through barter and sale, the right to contrive and invent.

We have the right to privacy, to personal security and to provide nature's necessities - air, water, food, clothing and shelter. We have the right to contract, to free association, and to a fair trial.

Along with these rights come some public and private duties to maintain those same rights. Forgetting these is where it all began to go horribly wrong.

First, we have the duty to honor the supremacy of the Creator and his laws. The duty not to take the life of another except in self-defense, to not steal or destroy the property of another and to be honest in all transactions with others.

Children have the duty to honor and obey their parents and elders while parents have the duty to protect, teach, feed, clothe and provide shelter for children.

We have the duty to support law and order and to keep the peace, not to contrive through a covetous heart to despoil another, to honorably perform contracts and covenants both with God and man and to not trespass on the property or privacy of another.

We have the duty to provide, to the best of our ability, for the needs of the helpless - the sick, the crippled, the injured, the poverty-stricken. The duty to become economically self-sufficient.

We have the duty to maintain the integrity of the family structure, to perpetuate the human race, to be temperate and to not promote or participate in the vices that destroy personal and community life.

We have the duty to support personal and public standards of common decency, to follow the rules of moral rectitude and to not aid or abet those involved in criminal or anti-social activities.

And we have the duty to perform our civic responsibilities - VOTE, assist public officials, serve in official capacities when called upon, stay informed on public issues, volunteer where needed.

If every Jew in Germany, Poland, France, etc, prior to and during World War II, had a gun and used it when the Nazis came to take them away, think how many American lives would have been saved.

Assault weapons? I probably would not even own one. Unless you are law enforcement or military using them in the proper line of duty, they seem to be for just gangs and mass murderers. Just regular pistols, rifles and shot guns. etc... I'd fight legally to keep those.

Then it's cool with me. I'll stand with you for it. I just don't have a need to kill a bunch of people like some of the recent trouble makers. But I'm on your side.

If the government came to get my guns, it would not be the same government that we have right now.. and in order to stay alive, or avoid jail, I would hand over the guns that are on their list.

If it is not on their list.. I don't know anything about it!

And no government will ever make such an absurd request. The idea feeds into the NRA's campaign of paranoia which then has people out buying assault weapons. Good Lord, where does it stop?

Did you sleep through your history classes? There ARE governments that took guns from citizens, and then used them to wipe out those very same citizens.

Paranoia is thinking that every CCW guys, is going to suddenly go nuts and shoot all those that don't have a CCW.

It will not stop, until all people start taking responsibility for themselves, and stop trying to get others to be responsible for them.

What country today is going to try and take away its citizens guns? With technology, historical paths are altered, and as a student of history, I fully understand that fact.

Never think for a moment, it can not be done - because that is exactly when it is done!
