I saw this on Greta last night - Unbelievable!

I watched this with mouth agape last night on Greta Van Susteren's show.

The really disgraceful thing is, all the Libs point to social security as the great "nest egg" for the common folk (which the Repubs tried to destroy with privatization haha!) and

THERE IS NO DAMN MONEY IN THE OASDI TRUST FUNDS ANYWAY!

ITS ALL IOU'S! CHECK IT OUT! CONGRESS HAS BEEN "BORROWING" FROM IT FOR YEARS!

Social Security spends $700,000 on Phoenix conference

UPDATE: Social Security defends conference at Biltmore

PHOENIX -- A Social Security Administration motivational management conference held at a high-end Valley resort last week cost $700,000, the SSA told the ABC15 Investigators.

Costs for the conference at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa included airfare, hotel entertainment, dancers, motivational speakers, and food, an administration official said.

A spokesperson outside the SSA's Phoenix office declined to comment.

A spokesperson from the SSA's regional office said the conference was essential, that teleconferencing was not an option, and that all 675 managers needed to meet in person.

The SSA provided ABC15 with a list of courses provided at the conference, which included "Techniques to Empower You," "Mentoring the Generations," and "Emotional Intelligence."

But the information provided by the SSA did not mention an after-hours casino trip, family members staying at the hotel, or the 20-minute dance party ABC15 observed.

Rooms for the conference were booked at $85 per night, far below the $400-plus room rate in prime season.

The SSA said the entire conference was put out to bid and all employees flew coach class, including the commissioner.

The conference cost was still a tough pill to swallow for taxpayers.

"It sounds like a big rip off to me," one Phoenix resident said.

"That's not right," another Valley resident told ABC15 after watching video of conference events.

Social Security trustees said in May the program will start paying out more in benefits than it collects in taxes in 2016, and the program's trust fund will be depleted by 2037.
Social Security Administration Statement
This was a training conference. The location was selected through the government's competitive bidding process. The facility that was selected was the lowest bidder, and we paid well-below the prescribed government rate.

I watched Greta last night in horror myself, Chico! This bothered me enormously, but what bothered me more was that Barry's thugs attempted to blackmail Senator Kyl....

Yes, I know that's how Washington works, but in this case they were threatening to deny federal funds allocated to the state of Arizona, unless the Governor could persuade Kyl to cease and desist his recommendation to revisit the Porkulous bill. I no longer recognize our government. I know this garbage has been around for centuries but NEVER viewed it as extreme as this all out Marxist mafioso takeover of our REPUBLIC!

C'mon people, they are TRAITORS, we can't wait for 2012, it's time to IMPEACH them before the damage is irreversible!

Ya know I missed Greta (of all nights) but without seeing it, I still agree with you, but how do we go about doing that? States with Dem Gov's aren't going to help, nd congress has the majority now! But it scares me to death what he has already done, and we still have 3+ years ahead! Will we still be here? I got a list off the net and I am going to call ALL the senator's and tell them to vote NO on both bills that they are looking at! (Cap and Trade, and Healthcare) Otherwise I say 2010 VOTE the blood suckers out! Nobody has convinced me yet he is an American! There was a guy on YouTube wrote an open letter to McCain, that could have helped him, but now I can't find it. The guy gave his name, address and phone number, and was a Viet Nam Vet. His name was I think "Clark Hamlin"! If we could get ahold of him "maybe" he could help us! We need it NOW! I'd also like to know what ALL he sealed up that we can't see!? Till then all I can say is call, write and PRAY HARD!!! We have lived though leaches, but this guy is an out and out THUG! Can't wait to hear your ideas!

Just wait until the big Obama government gets their hands in the healthcare system. They will be able to have bigger and better conferences and use more of our money for whatever they wish. How mindless.

For years, most of us have known about the waste, greed, and corruption that has consumed America's government. To learn that they're using our money to fund extravagant parties, well, honestly, are we that surprised? Common sense has been replaced by greed. The longer these people stay in office, the longer this behavior will continue. Honestly, how surprising is it? It's gone on for generations. That being said, I'm glad to see others are waking to the reality of what our government really is. You know what they say, better late than never.

The government has been using the social security coffers for their own use for years. It began under Lyndon Johnson and continues today.

Back in the 1960s, the federal government began running up larger deficits than they'd ever seen before, caused in part by the expense of the war in Vietnam. At the same time, the Social Security funds were beginning to show some very sizable surpluses as the post-war baby boom generation began going to work for the first time.

President Lyndon Johnson's advisors pointed out to him that he could make his budget deficit disappear simply by throwing the Social Security surpluses into the pot when he calculated the budget. He did so for the first time in 1969, and generated the first surplus since Eisenhower.

He called this the "unified" budget, because it unified the federal budget with Social Security trust funds. Until 1969, Social Security income and expenses had been "off budget;" that is, they weren't counted for or against the federal budget.

Every president since Johnson has used his little trick when discussing the budget. Why not? It makes them look good. The unified budget disguises just how far in the red our government has been going each year.

For example, in 1998, the "on budget" portion of the unified budget was $30 billion in the red, but the unified budget was in the black by $69 billion. In 1999, federal revenues fell $5 billion short of paying all of the bills, but Clinton claimed a $120 billion surplus. That is why our federal debt continued to grow even while the president crowed about budget surpluses.

Today, not only are they continuing to use our money to pad their budgets, they're also using it to fund large lavish convention type parties. There is no end to the stealing that has plagued our government for generations.

Roni~ I agree with you, my question is what about us baby boomers who has paid in all this and will get NOTHING? Since they have taken all this from us why haven't they cut their saleries in half (that is still more than the average person makes) and then live without benifits except Medicare like the rest of us do? Bet'cha they could find some way to get Medicare straight again!!!!! I agree with Quixy above, we need to find a way to get him out of office NOW! I feel he is hiding something in the sealed papers, that we can't see! The man has our jobs, and we are on unemployment, try and live on that with today's prices! If those bills go through, we will lose our home! They can sugar-coat it all they want but they are stealing from us worse than any other Pres. has! He still wants to blaime Bush, Dah.....he wan't perfect, but better than this! Any ideas?

I wish I knew how to get rid of him...and all the rest of them too. The only solution we really have is next time we're in the voting booth, vote out every Democrat and every Republican on the ballot. One party is no better than the other. It's time the American People wake up to that fact, and use their votes accordingly...before it's too late to fix this mess.
