I predict a resurgence of homophobic attitudes and policies, after Obama leaves office.

I have a feeling that homophobia is going to make a come back after Obama. Why? Well, he has become a very unpopular president. Now with him openly embracing gay marriage, those who dislike him are probably going to play dirty and try to appeal to those who are against gays being put on a level playing field with straights. Now, I don't like Obama, let me get that straight (lol) but I am a bisexual teenager, and I don't want to enter the work force or college under a president who supports the "right" of corporations to discriminate against me.

We've done a good job of telling homophobic people that being a dick to people you don't even know just because of their sexual preference is not okay. But I think that we might lose some ground after Obama leaves office. Grudgingly, I accept this. I want Obama gone. I just think that you all should be ready for a resurgence of homophobic attitudes and policies WHEN Romney is elected.

Ugh, this is gunna suck. And not in a good way.

Actually, the only people obsessed with homosexuals are homosexuals themselves.

If anyone thinks many Americans, besides homosexuals themselves, spend their valued leisure time contemplating homosexuals or homosexuality, then they go beyond flattering themselves into the land of delusion and indulgency of self-absorption and self-importance.

I'd say that topic would rank well below killer bee infestation.

Obviously, you're phobic about homophobia. Seek help.

    But you're wrong.

He's unpopular because he hates America, and is suing states, and is attacking the Constitution and our economy and sovereignty and energy supply .....UNPREDENTED debt....UNPRECEDENTED unemployment...health takeover, tax hikes, oil and coal attacks... He just plain SUCKS, and not in a good way. Although I have heard evidence to the contrary there, too.
    Oh yeah, FAST and FURIOUS?
Promising Putin to dismantle our defenses?
His lack of popularity is NOT about gay marriage, and NOT because he's black.

You misread everything I wrote, and I really don't feel like explaining it to you, but I will.

Obama is unpopular for a lot of reasons, including his stance on gay marriage and DADT. I predict that there will be major pandering to a homophobic base by Romney's people during his campaign, thus causing a resurgence of homophobia. A win by Romney, though necessary, will cause four years of misery for people like me. But, again, it's necessary, I guess, since Ron Paul threw in the towel, the sell out.

Homophobia is a neurosis, not a political stance.
It would only hurt any candidate to attack gays.

Where do you get the idea that the President is a "very unpopular president"? Gallup has his current approval rating at 47%, comparable to where Bush was in 2004 and Gerald Ford in 1976, lower than where Clinton or Reagan were at this point but higher than Bush Sr. and Carter. And he has better ratings than Romney on just about everything.

When the President does leave office, whether that's in 2013 or 2017, I don't think there will be a major resurgence of homophobia. After Lincoln died there was never any serious attempt to reimpose slavery, and after the 19th Amendment passed there was never any real talk of taking women's right to vote away. Whether some like to admit it or not, we do evolve as a society. Getting over homophobia is a long and ongoing process, but now that same sex marriage is legal in some states and the world hasn't ended, I think those few who want to force the issue back into the closet won't be able to do it.

On this point we actually agree. I also believe that marriage is a states' rights issue. You know, lost in the usual Right Wing barrage is the fact that the only thing the President did was say that he supports the right of homosexuals to marry. He didn't propose a constitutional amendment or any legislation, nor did he suggest that the Federal government should. In fact, it must be a conflict for the conservatives that he opposes DOMA. On the one hand, if he opposes it, they HAVE to support it. But on the other hand, one of the reasons he opposes it is that he ALSO believes that the Federal government can't legislate marriage. That leaves the Right with either opposing Obama or opposing States' Rights.

However, I should note that although it is a state issue, it also has to be constitutional. A state could not legally ban interracial marriage today, for instance, and given the recent court rulings regarding DOMA, I think that legislation to ban same sex marriage will ultimately be held to be unconstitutional as well. Not by THIS court, of course, but by a court that puts the Constitution first.

The "Full Faith and Credit" clause make it a concern for other states. If it were possible for a state to allow same sex marriage but that marriage would end if they enter a state that does not allow it. People might take a different view of it.

Yes, hopefully. I think that all us undesirables can do is hope that Romney's administration doesn't crack down on us too hard, lie low for four years (Cuz do you really think this guy will get a second term?) and hope that the 2016 president is a little more sane. lol
