I myself believe that there is no 'good' left in the world, only 'lesser evils'! Do you agree?

Yes, that is where all the available evidence is pointing towards
Maybe, but it's a cynical way of looking at things

Sorry, I think that good is out there. Along with bad, but not evil.

I don't necessarily think people are inherently good, but I do think we're inherently not bad. There's still good in the world, it's just all jumbled up with the rest of the crap out there.

I think there's still good. Sure there is. :) There is a lot of evil and all that, but that doesn't make the goodness any less... good. O.o Risking your life to save someone is goodness, like firefighters do every day, and adopting a child is goodness. :)

This sounds rather "dark night of the soul" ish to me, dear.:-/

I've been there myself after going through an unrealistic philosophical period where all I could see was good. Then for awhile all I could see was either bad or grey mixed 'tainted' stuff. I turns out I was having the mother of all serious clinical depressions I had ever had.

See, a lot of what's good doesn't get much press, plus good can be hard to see sometimes because sometimes what looks good turns out to be shit - yet something that seems to be crappy turns out to be good! Otherwise known as a silver lining. Appearances can often be deceiving.

There is still lots of good and lots of bad and lots of mediocre in the world, dear Dr.:) And good stuff however it is sparked can sometimes set off a chain reaction:

Cynics are usually just disenchanted perfectionist idealists who've lost hope. And since nobody's perfect there is lots for them to stay disenchanted with. :) People can still make change in the world...both good and bad.

I believe that we see the world however we are dispositioned to see it. There is plenty of good and plenty of bad. In fact, the more rare that something is makes it stand out that much more... Perhaps there is more good in the world now than there used to be, so the bad is standing out a lot more.

Good and Evil are polarities there is life and that is something outside the polar. Life is. A baby dear getting killed by a mountain lion is horrible to some but to the lion and her cubs it's "dinner". Life goes on breath after breath until...

there was good? When I always get confused when people bring up the good old days. Or christians say we are near the end because there are wars and pestulance. There have been wars since there has been writing and probably before that we just don't know how much before that. I don't think things were ever golden. Horror and Life go hand in hand. The farther away from horror we get living in our boxes on soft materials the more horrible it seems. at least that's my theory.

Either is a concept variable away from a central point (less good is more towards the bad) and I do not think that more of the worlds variables are on the bad side of the imaginary central point.
But it sure seems like that sometimes. May have to do with durations of push towards the opposite side of the spectrum (could even be centuries back then forth).
But overall I'd say they equalize.

Otherwise, helping somebody, would just be considered less evil than not helping them. If someone risks their life to save someone else, that would just be considered less evil than not taking the risk.

I understand what you mean, but with what I believe there has to be an ulterior motive behind helping somebody, even risking their life would have a reason behind it. One that disparages the good deed.

I know what you're saying and I don't mind the alterior motives, because I don't think that those kinds of alterior motives usually have evil at the root. It doesn't disparage the deed for me.

Yes. Someone could help someone else do something evil; that wasn't the kind of alterior motives that I was referring to when I said those kinds of alterior motives. The example I gave was: "If someone risks their life to save someone else". I was talking more along the lines of going into a burning building to save someone. Deep down even if someone is doing it, because it will make them feel good about themselves or that they need to do it to feel right about themselves, I don't think that is a lesser evil as asked in the question. But you do make a good side point about how you can get into ethics questions if you think more about possible scenarios.
