I don't love my country, because I'm an Atheist

To my knowledge, though not outwardly obvious an Atheist can't be president. Of course you could lie, but let's just say it wouldn't be the best thing to do in your position. I don't believe I'm thinking of becoming president, but it's just a general anger. What happen to freeedom of religion and all the crap American is suppose to be based on. General point is though that eligibility for presidency wasn't suppose to have religious standard. I'm fully aware that there's no changing this, but I felt I should just let everyone know.

    Don't care

It's a democracy. So people vote. So a big chunk of them would freak out and not vote for an atheist. Sorry, fair or not popularity and a bit of stupidity are part of the system.

While not saying you're wrong and while not telling you anything you haven't figured out, I do hope you reconcile that it is what it is. You should believe what you believe because you do and just deal with the unpopularity of it.

Sorry, sure this is absolutley not helpful nor original! Hang in there.

Not saying we haven't, but it shouldn't have to be to the point where an atheist president has to make everyone believe he's not one

I disagree with you that there's no changing it. The population of our country will evolve (kicking and screaming) to be more secular, and eventually we will have an atheist president. It may even be a person of color or (gasp!) a woman!

OBAMA IS BLACK. You look at him walking down the street know no prior information. You would assume he is black, which he basically is; don't try to be recially correct all of a sudden.

Well technically he's half black and half white, but I don't see what his ethnicity has to do with anything, other that perhaps support my point that the groupthink of our country is evolving. What I meant by what I originally wrote, and what may have confused you, is that a future ATHEIST president may also be an ethnic minority or a woman. I'm not denying that Obama is a person of color.

Yes I did misunderstand I didn't know you were focusing on atheist at that point, and yes he is both black and white. However most would assume he's just black if you knew nothing about him.

I know. It's enraging. I'm a soldier and a veteran, and MY patriotism is questioned all the time, because I don't believe in God.

Im a Christian but i dont think religion should be a basis on what makes a good leader or a good person. Your actions should tell us that.

An atheist can believe in the Constitution and Bill of rights and choose to uphold them. The so help me god part means nothing as we see every day from elected officials. Neither is patriotism or love of a country a requirement. Why? because just like religion, these are tool used to control thinking and actions (or at least try). Personally, I could care less if a president prays, is religious, says the pledge or swears on bibles... In fact, I would prefer they didn't!

"Atheists shouldn't be discriminated against", is what you meant to say.

Yeah, how about that? No religious test, my ass.

BUT in my opinion, we've already had many atheist Presidents - they were just too smart to admit it.

A quick study in comparative law: In the USA, everything is permitted, except that which is forbidden. In Germany, everything is forbidden, except that which is permitted. And in communist China, with its very extensive list of constitutional rights, everything is forbidden, especially that which is permitted. So the American atheist is free to disbelieve in a divine architect of the universe that the Founders accepted when they drafted Article VI of the Constitution, stating in part that "no religious Test shall ever be required as a qualificationto any Office or public Trust under the United States."

You should read up on the founders. Many of them were deists. The science which has proven that no god is necessary for the universe to exist; didn't exist yet. If it had, many of the founders would have been straight-up atheists.

This is the sort of thing that most typifies aggressive nationalism. The constant insistence that the USA is a Christian Nation. Ultimately, it will lead to fascism.

What I'm saying is be civil, respect other people and they will respect your space and views. Don't lump all christians into the enemy just as I don't lump all atheists as being the enemy....When someone judges me by the actions of others that irritates me.
