Yolanda Medina, 41, of the Bronx, died May 23 while trying to donate a kidney to her brother Roberto Medina.

A Bronx man left Montefiore Medical center without a promised kidney transplant for a second time Friday and learned that he was never in line to get one.

“I have so much anger. I am emotionally drowned,” Roberto Medina, 39, told the Daily News before he was discharged from Montefiore Medical Center.

The father of four has been rattled by an astonishing series of medical foulups as he waits for a life-saving transplant.

Two weeks ago, his sister Yolanda, 41, went under the knife at Montefiore to donate an organ to him and died on the operating table.

Surgeons apparently severed her aorta. They couldn’t save the mother of three — or even preserve the kidney to give to her brother.

After the tragedy made headlines, the hospital and the New York Organ Donor Network summoned Medina on Wednesday night, saying a new kidney from a cadaver had been found for him.

This is very sad that Yolanda Medina, died trying to save her brothers life.

My friend had to have a kidney transplant and literally hours before he would have died his father gave him one of his. Both are doing fine health wise but Jeff had numerous complications before he got the kidney. His body was literally being consumed by itself and he has major nerve damage to every limb. His anti rejection medication costs $5,900.00 a month

Hearing that someone dies giving the gift of life to someone else is sad.

I'd give away a kidney....but, if someone in my family ever needs one I'd want to give it to them. I feel the pain though! R.I.P Yolanda.

Oh my God, how horrible!!!!! The surgeons screwed up, or else Yolanda would still be alive today after the surgery. I hope this family gets justice in more ways than one. What a horrible thing to happen. She wanted to help her brother only to die instead. My heart goes out to the family. I'll be sending prayers.

It seems to me there are some unprofessional and/or incompetent people working at that medical center. No doubt mistakes can/will happen but... wow! :-(

I hope they are severely punished for what happened. It was their negligence and stupidity that caused a woman's death and prevented her brother from getting a badly needed transplant. I feel so horrible for this family. They didn't deserve this horrible treatment. I pray those responsible will get what's coming to them.

Yes... I would like to think it was just a horrible mistake. But is seems strange. I wasn't there so I don't know, but the story is so sad!

I'd like to know how they severed a major artery. It's not like it couldn't be seen, so it's not really that easy to miss from what I understand. I wonder if they were in a hurry or what the deal was? Either way a qualified surgeon shouldn't have made such a mistake. I hope they investigate it very thoroughly.
