Not really, not militarily, but we left, the North and Viet Cong came into the south and filled the void. Time went on and things changed, they had purges and the ethnic Chinese and Indians had to flee along with some US deserters. They had a war with China. The fall of the Soviet Union cut off all aid, thats when Vietnam began to embrace capitalism. Now they have come full circle. If you ask any teenager what communism is, they have absolutely no idea what your talking about. All they care about is their i-phone. The government is a typical corrupt government though.

Perhaps Congresswoman should take a remedial course in the political and civil history of Vietnam. Then, maybe she would not make quite as big a fool of herself when she is speaking of something she knows nothing about.

Actually, when 'they' were trying to decide what to do with the retired shuttles, there was a very large contingency of local elected officials, area representatives, leading business people, and several astronaut wives all went to DC for a presentation to have one of them obviously retired in Houston (which didn't happen, and everyone is still pretty mad about) - she was the only one from the entire Houston and surrounding counties area that did not go. Guess there was no photo-op in it for her. She gets re-elected from her district, but I can tell you the vast majority of people here in Houston think she's such an embarrassment, and a complete goofball.
