-The record for the longest period without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes during a rocking chair marathon. The record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred speech and memory and concentration lapses.
- It's impossible to tell if someone is really awake without close medical supervision. People can take cat naps with their eyes open without even being aware of it.
- Anything less than five minutes to fall asleep at night means you're sleep deprived. The ideal is between 10 and 15 minutes, meaning you're still tired enough to sleep deeply, but not so exhausted you feel sleepy by day.

this guy is somesort of an explorer who passed thorugh a desert on his feet doin' so,but (as he said in the interview I read) after it he slept for a couple of days and the doctors said his body was a close as a man can be to a coma..
as the guy said, and as I know for my insomnia experience, after some time awake the body kinda separates from conciousness..so imagine living a longlasting drunk state with a terrible hangover.
This is based on a study I read some years ago, and was without a stimulus such as caffeine, and maintaining a regular diet.
straight
but then i practically
crashed and burned
>_>
BUT!!! i think the person who can best answer that is:::
I heard if you are forced to stay up for 4 days, you can sleep standing up for 24 hours without knowing it. I saw that in a truck driving safety training video about the extreme dangers of fighting fatigue.
