-The record for the longest period without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes during a rocking chair marathon. The record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred speech and memory and concentration lapses.

    - It's impossible to tell if someone is really awake without close medical supervision. People can take cat naps with their eyes open without even being aware of it.

    - Anything less than five minutes to fall asleep at night means you're sleep deprived. The ideal is between 10 and 15 minutes, meaning you're still tired enough to sleep deeply, but not so exhausted you feel sleepy by day.

A whole day, and then you get tired at night, and you have to go to sleep. Simple question, simple answer.

Well, I'm terribly sorry for being ignorant, but I never heard of such things. I can't last more than 24 hours.

15 years firefighting... Worked a 1PM to 1AM shift, was called to a fire at 1:30 AM - fought it until 5PM... went home and showered. No one to cover me, so I worked 7PM to 8AM.

24 hrs or maybe 36, but I think after that long of time your reaction is slowed dramatically. I've done it and it's definitely hard on the body.

I made it 6 days. 4th day mild hallucinations and dizzy spells set in. No drugs. Now, sometimes I'll go 24-30 hours without sleep even though I REALLY want to crash. I only average 4-5 hours of sleep anyway. I'm up at the drop of a pin so that doesn't help either. It sucks!!!

I'd see stuff that wasn't there such as I kept thinking I'd see something move out of the corner of my eye but nothing was there. Sometimes black blotches and whatever I was looking at would fade in and out of focus. I'd see white spots when I stood up. I saw a quick flash of a cat in my living room but the only problem was, I didn't have a cat. My depth perception was off too.

Ugh, hang in there. I don't know how long mine would have lasted for but my Aunt had a xanax prescription so that in combination with some shots finally paved the way for me to crash out 6 hours. Of course, I can't say thats the right or healthy thing to do.

I think a teacher at my school said that you can be awake for 48 hours unless you have been taking drugs... but after 48 hours your body just crashes or you die.

Not sure. I just know that after 36 hours, I personally feel like I have done several lines of the white stuff. I only know how that feels because of college exploits... I am so glad I got away from that crap.

After I had surgery last June though, I couldn't sleep for anything for about a month. I went about 48 hours without sleep and I wanted to sleep so bad. It SUCKED.
