How do you feel about people who complain about the economy, but half heartedly look for a job?

Many people are looking for jobs in fields they once had employment for many years. Now they have been laid off and are walking the streets looking for those same jobs . They will not find them. Obama cannot help them. Neither can Romney.

There are great jobs, make no mistake about that. In health care, in robotics, in technology ( gaming and online industry), imaging ( satellite), alternate energies, aquatic farming, water conservation,.... etc. Note that these jobs are rooted in science and math. Where do USA students place on a global scale? Second to last of the industrialized countries. Yet no politician is particularly interested in making our schools truly competitive and ready for a global community. Why should they care about public schools when their kids all attend private schools?

I empathize with them (feel bad, but not entirely)

As an employer I routinely get applications from people who have not held any job longer than 6 months, are high school drop outs, and have a criminal record. They have no problem telling me that they arent interested in anything that pays less than $14.00 per hour even though they have no experience and no education.

Looking for a job is as much a psychological hurdle as an economic one. I'm having trouble with the notion of 'half-heartedly' looking for work. There are times and situations when sympathy is appropriate, and there are times and situations when a boot in the ass is appropriate.

That was actually a huge argument I had with one of my sisters. She's one of those people who work for 6 months, then collect unemployment for 6 months. And over the last 2 years finding that new job has gotten harder for her, especially since she's been working her scam for a long enough time that most potential new employers notice the pattern.
She'd complain about the sluggish job market while spending 9 1/2 hours a day on Facebook.

I like to drive to the welfare office asking for handouts in my brand new Cadillac Escalade sitting high on 50 inch chrome.
