How do I vote? Whats the senate, the house, and congress?

I live in New York. Do I get to vote for Senate of all the states or just New York? Whats the difference between all this and how does it work? What about congress and the house? How do I find out who is going to be on the ballot when I go to vote this November and what their positions are?
