It first started when I would observe the shopping habits of people at the grocery store. I used to bag groceries and we'd watch people who'd come in at the beginning of the month buying food with food stamps and WIC vouchers. Here I was working my ass off for minimum wage and these welfare queens would come in with designer jeans buying hundreds of dollars of meat. We actually had a secret language that we would use in front of the customer so they wouldn't know we were referencing them. That's when I noticed my first leanings to being a conservative. Why? Because liberalism was obviously bringing corruption.
However, I really first noticed I arrived at my current conservative political ideology starting with an Indiana State college history prof who was intoxicated on liberalism. This guy was pissed and angry as hell toward the world. I recall he was a short little man, divorced numerous times from what I was told and to be honest, I didn't learn a damn thing in his class because he was far more fascinating to observe than the subject he was teaching. The last time I checked he was writing some B.S. paper on global warming. It was also about that time that a guy started to become popular on the radio by the name of Rush Limbaugh. And Limbaugh was actually making fun of peo...

And Limbaugh was actually making fun of people like my professor. And it all made sense. I wasn't interested in politics until Limbaugh made it make sense to me. Politics is the art of B.S. It's who can B.S. the other person more. And it was Limbaugh who was able to explain in simple terms how the liars on the left were lying which to me was endlessly fascinating. Sure, there are liars on the right too. I'm not claiming there aren't. But there is far more inconsistency on the left. Even JFK would look at today's Dem party and give a big "WTF went wrong with the Dem party of 2011?"

, far left to far right and everything in between. What influenced you?

My father was a journalist, and my mother an artist. He was quite liberal, she was moderate to liberal.
And most of my friends after high school, as well, being creative types (writers, artists, filmmakers). Living in a college town (Big 10 school) probably added to the mix, too.
But it was going to college that really influenced me...learning, and seeing first hand, how badly the lower- and middle-classes, the majority in this country, were treated.
Life.
Military Service.
Then came the election of 76 and I realized that I was nothing like Jimmy Carter. For the next four years, the country, the military and I suffered under his foolish, misguided policies and pathetic leadership.
Then came Reagan and I loved the man. I began to realize that I was conservative. Then came the Reagan vs Mondale in 1994 and I KNEW that I was not a liberal.
I then began watching and listening more closely. I even ran for office after retiring from the military. I might again.
.....Thanks Obama!
When I first registered in 1970 I registered as a Conservative Democrat (Yes those two words can go together without exploding) because I supported George Wallace for President. Over the years both parties have grown to be to extreme in my opinion. The Democrats are obviously off the deep end with their desire to social engineer everything for the greater good. But I also can not abide the moralist conservatives who have taken control of the Republican party and their desire to control things at home while sticking our national noses into world events we should not. Both parties have become incessant busy bodies who want to be in every aspect of our personnel lives while preaching freedom and independence for one damned reason or another.
i Also pay attention to the things they do.
Do they say what they mean & mean what they say?
sometimes i just have to vote for the least of 2 or more jerks
this time around as far as the Presidency ?
they are making it really easy for me to decide.
