How did Adam Smith do it?

How on earth did he do it? How did the enlightenment philosophers think of such a successful way of government? Can we ever match their intellectual capacities?

Most revolutionary philosophers come at a time when there is enough evidence and communication and availability of information to allow them to see the mistakes of the past to clarify potential solutions.

They are often, therefore, mostly critiques of systems in existence. The longer mistakes are made, the easier it is to show them.

I love Smith - he understood very early that there is more virtue in 'right' selfishness than in 'wrong' selflessness. Only by living for ourselves are we able to help others as one can't help someone else if one can't even help oneself.

I think you'd be surprised at how many have held on to those principles. But the concepts he pondered have since been turned on their heads and tortured into something completely devoid of his reason/logic. It happens.

He thought outside of the box.

Too bad many people still don't believe that free markets increase a nations wealth.
