I see chickens when it comes to Russia I think all should try to be nice, they did what it been six years in Iraq? and they moved in South Ossetia ass in six days wow what mobility of a military! something to think about I think we need to revamp our own troops and get them off drugs and partying and making babies all over the place and mental illness too !

This is the most underrated story of the past year, in my view...Russia has made lots of money selling oil and gas and is now in a position to challenge our superpower status, primarily due to blunders made in our foreign policy in recent years. Ukraine might be its next target or Poland just to flex their muscles, intimidate the former republics to toe the line, and not join NATO. They are involved in the Americas, even have war ships in Cuba! The Russians are making peace with China, which does not bode well for us...I can go on and on....bad news, which is being ignored by this Administartion because they don't know how to deal with it. They are no longer in a positio to threaten military action, so they just stay quiet and hope the situation does not deteriorate ubder their watch. It is very possible that Putin might test the Obama Administartion's will by invading one of its nrighbors, ally of ours.....We shall see...!!

I'm not too concerned because Russias leaders are sane. The same reason the Cold War never turned into a shooting war is why I'm not biting my nails. MAD is still in play. Russia doesn't want to be wiped of the map even if it means wiping us off with them. Their concern over a NATO missle defense system is that MAD will be unbalanced in our favor. That may be understandable from their side. But from our side it isn't. Our leaders aren't going to initiate a nuclear war with Russia and we'll have the defense to make nuclear Armageddon less likely.

Now as far as Russia getting invovled with terror groups to cause havoc, that is bothersome. But, they can't be to provocative given our almost 2 decades of peace since the fall of the Soviet Union. If they assisted outside forces and that was found out, they would be seen as the agressors and world opinion would turn against them.

I think we're bound to have a few years of sparring back and forth before things settle down. Russia has no interest in spreading communism or world domination anymore. They want a better economic foot to stand from and thats all. We don't need to worry about WWIII, CW II or nuclear armageddon.

We so wrapped up in things Middle Eastern that we're failing to look at what's going on in Russia. And it's not good

We'll have to see what kind of diplomacy can happen in our new administration. Otherwise...the last cold war didn't affect me. I know that it breeds paranoia and fear. i am not into that.

Yeah, I hope Obama can keep a strong spine with Russia, but take a more diplomatic route than the neocon route. What has worried me is that both Obama/Biden and McCain seem to view the modern struggle through Georgia's lenses, so either administration might be similar. Obviously we have Obama/Biden now, but they might not turn out to be much different.

Actually, the NeoCon route would just have us engaged rather than disengaged. And that could be diplomatically or militarily or otehrwise.
