You may be familiar with the proverb that it is better to teach a man to fish as that skill will feed him for a lifetime. Liberalism leads to taking away one's ability to do for himself and his family by making him believe that all blessings come from government. The truth is that all blessings come from God, including the various talents that individuals have. If we trust in God and do what is right (meaning loving our neighbor as ourselves, helping the helpless, such as widows and orphans - which would include others who cannot do for themselves . . .) then we do not burden others needlessly and bring God's grace upon those who are less fortunate. So Christianity and conservatism are related because conservatives respect the individual's God-given rights while gladly helping the helpless.
When comparing who gives more money to charity, conservatives win the top spot. Why is that? Perhaps it's because liberals prefer others to give so they don't have to.

Of course - silly stuff. They are no more incompatible than being a liberal and a Christian (harder to find those who are both) Now being a Progressive and being a Christian would be as difficult as being a Communist and a Christian.

Biblical priciples are always conservative, in both Jewish and Christian contexts ... one can readily see this in Proverbs and in Psalms in the OT, and in all aspects of the NT ... the things that leftists label "conservative" when they spew hatred or ignorance are not usually Biblically based, but more often based in warped interpretations ... the question would be more interesting if it were to inquire about how leftist/statist/socialist principles could possibly be Biblical - now THAT would be interesting!

I give to my church, which in turn has a food pantry FULL of volunteers to assist the poor at getting "back on their feet", unlike the government, which if full of PAID employees, which only keeps them dependent on the "state".

Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime.

How does the church "teach a man to fish". You just said the church has food pantries. Churches are terrible for helping the poor, in large part because they have a vested interest in only helping members of their own faith. The government is not always impartial, but if people are already paying taxes it stands to reason this is the most cost effective way to provide benefits for the poor.

Well now, don't you know absolutely nothing!
"Churches are terrible for helping the poor," Wrong! Over 90% (at least at my church) that comes into our pantry via donations, goes out to the poor. Can't be said with the government.

"in large part because they have a vested interest in only helping members of their own faith." Wrong again! They help people from ALL faiths, though the majority usually come from the same faith.

The terms "Cost effective", and "Government" don't go together, and is best described as an "oxymoron"!

Maybe I should have used this quote instead: "For also when we were with you, this we declared to you: that, if any man will not work, neither let him eat." Maybe this is the biggest problem we have with the class known as the "poor". We are giving handouts, instead of a hand up!

The money going to the government isn't specificaly FOR the poor. It's for every U.S. citizen.

"Wrong again! They help people from ALL faiths, though the majority usually come from the same faith." Proving my point, I didn't say they DO only help Christians, but that they have an interest in doing so or in converting those they help.

"The terms "Cost effective", and "Government" don't go together, and is best described as an "oxymoron"!" Only by conservative standards. Government has the greates means and power, and also the greatest motive.

Spoken like a true socialist! When Government controls everything nothing good gets done! Government stifles innovation, and the human spirit. The ONLY motive government has is, is to control the people, PERIOD!

And yet another funny. I usually hear the Dumbassocrats whining how we need to help the poor, yet are the same ones that won't lift a finger to go out and do just that. They're also the same one that donate the least too(or at least according to their tax records).

Neocons donate to charities just for the tax deductions. Neocons are as selfish as it gets.

Democrats do donate to charities. At least the ones who have money. Democrats are also willing to pay higher taxes to help the poor, while neocons would sooner see everyone else starve.

I love how conservatives always go to the charity argument. Conservatives are by-and-large more wealthy than liberals, and therefore have the means to give to charities. Liberals dedicate more time and effort to actually helping the less fortunate and prefer to pool their tax dollars to help the poor.

And who takes a BIG cut of the "pooled" tax money?

That's right, overpaid govt workers whose unions buy the politicians that give them even more bloated salaries and benefits, not to mention lifetime sinecures.

    Wrong.
Just Google "who is richer liberals or conservatives"
and see what you come up with.

    "Pool their tax money"? Haha
You mean they like to force other people to fund the government.
Like those mythical rich conservatives you refer to.

Nice theory you have. Too bad it's not based on reality.

Well this conservative has sacrificed and saved money for a rainy day, always living beneath my means. Not like many Liberals who use credit to buy things that they cannot afford, but cannot sacrifice and deny themselves until they have the cash. Deficit spending is what got our country into the mess that it is in, and liberal spenders perpetuate it buy conducting themselves irresponsibly as well. Teaching one to earn their own and sacrifice will yield better results than creating a society who believes others owe them something that they haven't worked for.

I see you blocked Civic when she gave you an argument that you couldn't deal with. What a shame.
Ya know, I don't make near as much money as joe biden, but last year I gave more to charities than he did. Don't you think he should be a little embarrassed by that? No, he just thinks that tax payers should give it and not him.
And no, liberals don't dedicate more time and effort to helping the poor. What they do is help them remain independent on the government. Sometimes, if you want to help someone, you've got to kick them in the butt and make them get a job. Sorta like your lazy teenager.
Hand outs don't help anyone, hand ups do. You DiMs gotta learn the difference.
