You may be familiar with the proverb that it is better to teach a man to fish as that skill will feed him for a lifetime. Liberalism leads to taking away one's ability to do for himself and his family by making him believe that all blessings come from government. The truth is that all blessings come from God, including the various talents that individuals have. If we trust in God and do what is right (meaning loving our neighbor as ourselves, helping the helpless, such as widows and orphans - which would include others who cannot do for themselves . . .) then we do not burden others needlessly and bring God's grace upon those who are less fortunate. So Christianity and conservatism are related because conservatives respect the individual's God-given rights while gladly helping the helpless.
When comparing who gives more money to charity, conservatives win the top spot. Why is that? Perhaps it's because liberals prefer others to give so they don't have to.

Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime.
"Churches are terrible for helping the poor," Wrong! Over 90% (at least at my church) that comes into our pantry via donations, goes out to the poor. Can't be said with the government.
"in large part because they have a vested interest in only helping members of their own faith." Wrong again! They help people from ALL faiths, though the majority usually come from the same faith.
The terms "Cost effective", and "Government" don't go together, and is best described as an "oxymoron"!
Maybe I should have used this quote instead: "For also when we were with you, this we declared to you: that, if any man will not work, neither let him eat." Maybe this is the biggest problem we have with the class known as the "poor". We are giving handouts, instead of a hand up!
"Wrong again! They help people from ALL faiths, though the majority usually come from the same faith." Proving my point, I didn't say they DO only help Christians, but that they have an interest in doing so or in converting those they help.
"The terms "Cost effective", and "Government" don't go together, and is best described as an "oxymoron"!" Only by conservative standards. Government has the greates means and power, and also the greatest motive.
I love hearing jokes like this from LWNJ's!

That's right, overpaid govt workers whose unions buy the politicians that give them even more bloated salaries and benefits, not to mention lifetime sinecures.
Just Google "who is richer liberals or conservatives"
and see what you come up with.
"Pool their tax money"? Haha
You mean they like to force other people to fund the government.
Like those mythical rich conservatives you refer to.
Nice theory you have. Too bad it's not based on reality.
Let's hope we can save it despite the "entitlement irresponsibles" bent on destroying it with laziness and greed!
Ya know, I don't make near as much money as joe biden, but last year I gave more to charities than he did. Don't you think he should be a little embarrassed by that? No, he just thinks that tax payers should give it and not him.
And no, liberals don't dedicate more time and effort to helping the poor. What they do is help them remain independent on the government. Sometimes, if you want to help someone, you've got to kick them in the butt and make them get a job. Sorta like your lazy teenager.
Hand outs don't help anyone, hand ups do. You DiMs gotta learn the difference.
It's the hard work of good people who get the job done!
