I'm becoming very concerned about problems with mid-air collisions. I mean if birds can bring a plane down, why not drones. You have Feds, State Police, Sheriff's Offices, local police, etc. wanting these drones and having too many in the air, well, I'm afraid it's just a matter of time before disaster strikes.
I'm not personally afraid of them. I'm not a criminal or terrorist, so I'm not worried about them watching me. I am concerned about too much "stuff" up in the air.

Just one more Big Brother Tactic to keep americans in their "sights".

No at all, this is just one more piece the Government is putting in place in anticipation of the civil war they think is comming, goes right along with 430 million rounds of ammo DHS has acquired.

The use domestic drones should restricted by the government (federal, state, or local) to the following. Border control, looking for missing people (like children or others reported missing 24 hours ago not two years ago), by fire departments while fighting fires,  finding people like after a tornado, hurricane, earth quack , excreta, excreta, excreta. If any form of Law Enforcement federal, state, or local and yes that also means you DHS want to place any one under any kind of surveillance you must have a warrant!!! No warrant No change!!!

I'm not pleased with that prospect at all. I find it troubling and insidious.

I am very angry about it.

Time to step up efforts at the local level to reign in the burgeoning police state.

Yes, I'm ok with that because drones will be used to help dust crops, fight forest fires, sell houses, shoot movies and assist local police in chasing suspects.

How did you NOT think this was inevitable? When the Economics of Scarcity really begin to take hold, the cries for "austerity" will echo through the land as police, fire and social services or the bulk of the population are cut to the bone and replaced by privatized security forces that will protect you if you can pay for it. The Rich DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU. Watch as the drones are first deployed over the inner cities, then expand out. They're ALREADY warching ALL your communications anyway. How long until the DHS begins deploying Hellfire missiles on drones over US cities?

The commercial jets aren't there to spy on you, the drones are a different story.

To my knowledge, no such permission has ever been given to take a multi-million dollar military weapon off of its national security duties in order to aid local law enforcement in catching a few not-particularly-talented common theives.
