Only 49 more states to go!!!!!!!

Hooray for Florida !

I-95 and I-75 will be jammed for the next month or so with druggies and deadbeats heading North out of Florida, because this is the first state in the union to require drug testing to receive welfare!

Hooray for Florida ! In signing the new law, Republican Gov. Rick Scott said, "If Floridians want welfare, they better make sure they are drug-free."

Applicants must pay for the drug test, but are reimbursed if they test drug-free. Applicants who test positive for illicit substances won't be eligible for the funds for a year, or until they undergo treatment. Those who fail a second time will be banned from receiving funds for three years!

Naturally, a few people are crying this is unconstitutional.
How is this unconstitutional? It's a legal requirement that every person applying for a job has to pass drug tests in order to get the job, why not those who receive welfare?

Let's get welfare back to the ones who need it, not to those who won't get a job.

Usually, I don't like things like this--The Government telling us what we can and cannot do yadiyada, you know the drill...

But if it is in regards to drug testing wel-fare I agree. Even if all drugs were legal, I'd still want this to be implemented. There is no excuse to be living off of other people's money, while sitting around getting high all day. It's no fair and these leeches need to grow up or check themselves into reban for sure.

I think you will be surprised at the lack of people who are denied. I am curious. Since most of the people on any kind of assistance are children under the age of 16 will they be testing them too.

    this is old news.

they did that years ago and the results were that it changed NOTHING.

    and cost TAXPAYER money!
  • mightymouse49 2012/06/21 20:30:55
I agree. It needs to be nationwide.
  • gocar mightym... 2012/06/21 21:16:40
But as the previous post said, it has been done before but reaps no benefit at all. The program costs too much and requires the hiring of more people to police a fraction of 1% of the people. It only satisfies the folks who feel all the people receiving assistance are undeserving. How very Christian of them eh? America is such a religious country and insists how they are a god fearing country but when it comes to compassion they have none.

We mean business here in Florida: Welfare Drug Testing, Suing the Feds Over Obama-Care, Purging our voting rolls of illegal voters.

Getting someone off of drugs and into a job or career sounds pretty Christian to me. Stop being such a hater.

"It's a legal requirement that every person applying for a job has to pass drug tests in order to get the job, why not those who receive welfare?"

Its not a legal requirement to get a job. Its an insurance requirement at most employers. Its a legal requirement if someone gets hurt on the job and they want workman's comp to cover the medical and missed work.

We need that law in NC, but I can't see Bev Perdue sign off on it.

    Maybe next year.
