Only 49 more states to go!!!!!!!

Hooray for Florida !

I-95 and I-75 will be jammed for the next month or so with druggies and deadbeats heading North out of Florida, because this is the first state in the union to require drug testing to receive welfare!

Hooray for Florida ! In signing the new law, Republican Gov. Rick Scott said, "If Floridians want welfare, they better make sure they are drug-free."

Applicants must pay for the drug test, but are reimbursed if they test drug-free. Applicants who test positive for illicit substances won't be eligible for the funds for a year, or until they undergo treatment. Those who fail a second time will be banned from receiving funds for three years!

Naturally, a few people are crying this is unconstitutional.
How is this unconstitutional? It's a legal requirement that every person applying for a job has to pass drug tests in order to get the job, why not those who receive welfare?

Let's get welfare back to the ones who need it, not to those who won't get a job.

This is nothing new. In fact, Florida spent $178 Million to implement this. Total money saved because 96% of welfare recepients PASS their drug tests? $60,000. Fiscal conservatism? Spare me!

less than !0% of the people intended to be tested where ever included in the test and of those 46% where allowed to get a "do over" when they failed the first time ...I love having people from other states try and tell me what is going on in my own back yard - LOL

I could really care less about the law as it does not affect me. I only see it as an example of Government waste in the form of feel good legislation. A person could cheat the test for not much more then the cost of the test itself. The only ones making out big on this is the testing company itself, and im sure their lobbyists are laughing all the way to the bank.

    As usual?
    the Kit : http://www.ureasample.com/buy...

The Urine can be obtained from multiple sources. the kit is just a hair over the cost of the test.

Still have no idea why people are getting insulting on this.

Wow, and here i thought only the left resorted to personal attacks to try to prove a point. Being as we are both Libertarians can we be intelligent and keep it to the issues and facts at hand? We are far from Bankrupt, with the Libertarian Republican Gov. We elected last cycle as well as our Financially Conservative Majority in both houses we have enacted serous financial reforms and are on track to increase that.

I don't think a 12yr age difference lets you call me kid and I'm not even going to dignify the rest of that. Reapproach with respect and I am willing to dialog.

P.S. I was being helpful in finding a poster a link for his statement. I found it myself just to debunk the whole traffic jam exodus statement. I really don't think it will make much of a difference then to make the Governor Richer.

also a false post only a bit over 400 people where ever tested not 4000 and the $ scores where based on one month of cash assistance payments ONLY not the annual cost to the state for each person and ALL benefits ....did you know that if you get a food stamp card you also can get a FREE fishing license just one of the many many perks of being a loser!

As a libertarian i would think you would be opposed to the concept of a fishing licence in the first place.

I think you need to heed your own advice about "rose-colored glasses" amigo. Can the state of Florida continue to afford this long-term? Also, why stop at drugs? Why not test for alcohol?

We don't have $60K to give to failing welfare recepients but we have $178 Million to give to a company whose shares were sold by... Governor Scott to line his pockets! This isn't about saving tax dollars, it's about ripping the people off under the guise of morality!
  • Franklin IC Freeley 2012/06/21 02:22:04
funny how a left-coast loser pretends to know facts about policy in a state that is far far better off than his !

Funny how you actually managed to write a complete sentence that was grammatically accurate... OH WAIT!

It must hurt your feeble brain to see someone make an intelligent argument in order for you to come back with insults. I'd be glad to read anything to refute my position on the matter, but when all you can do is call me a loser, I just grin and know I've proved my point.

Also, this may be where I live now but it ain't where I grew up. If conservative principles were flawless, I would have never have had to move to Kalifornia.

Correction: 96% of the APPLICANTS pass the drug tests. No measure on how many do not apply because they are on drugs.
What is the statistic on the drop in APPLICANTS after the testing began?
  • Andrew 2012/06/21 01:21:53
