Hollywood Union Bullying .. Poland's FOLK Artists?

The Nation of Poland is very proud of its long standing tradition of FOLK Arts ..
In fact, there's a "Association of Folk Artists" that recognizes and promotes the folk arts of Polish Peoples too ..
And one of the ways that they recognize the efforts of the FOLK ARTS inside the nation
Is the awarding of Metal Plaques (with little inscribed images of Jesus)
To those Individual Artists .. Museums .. Folk Festivals .. and even Fairs (including a Bread Fair).
These little plaques are called "People's OSKAR"
Named in HONOR of a POLISH Ethnographer (Oskar Kolberg)
whose PROLIFIC works includes more than 10,000 Polish folk songs
(Oskar passed away in 1890) .. his songs are much loved and remembered even nowadays.
AS if the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (you know .. Hollywood, its union .. and the Oscars) ..
doesn't have enough of publicity and power overall ..
Now they extend their reach into the Nation of POLAND ..
to send this little "Association of Folk Artists"
A THREATENING LEGAL LETTER
DEMANDING That the Polish Association of Folk Artists STOP Using the name 'OSCAR' in its plaques
(claiming that even the Polish version of "OSKAR" is covered by its OSCAR trademark)
(I'm sure we are a bit .. well .. confused here ..)
Needless to say .. the Polish Association of Folk Artists are bemused, confused ..
and .. some are even impressed that the Academy of Mostion Picture ARTS is so INTERESTED in their little Efforts to recognize the home-grown talent of Folk Artists within Poland.

In the late 19th century immigrants from Italy, Finland, Scandinavia, Poland, , the Austro-Hungarian Empire. These people brought with them their ethnic traditions and foods. In 1917 a writer for the National Geographic Magazine could say that when you left Houghton and traveled to Calumet some ten miles away it was like entering a foreign land. Ethnic churches, newspapers, clubs, shops dominated the community where over 75% of the population was foreign-born. Similar conditions existed throughout the Upper Peninsula. This immigrant tradition has left the region with what folklorist, Richard Dorson called dialectic folklore.
