Now here is what your history lesson fails to mention:

In between the formation of the klan, and the present day, the two political parties swung to the opposite of what they were when formed..

The republicans.....were the liberals, who sought the abolishment of slavery, and the democrats were the conservatives who demanded that it remain a "state level" issue.
And the infamous "Southern Democrats" were the WORST...they were the ones who started the klan.
Also having married a southern woman, I can say that "southern pride" is deeply held, and many of those southern democrats refused to change what they were called.

Southern Democrats are members of the U.S. Democratic Party who reside in the American South. In the 19th century, they were the definitive pro-slavery wing of the party, opposed to both the anti-slavery Republicans (GOP) and the more liberal Northern Democrats.

Eventually "Redemption" was finalized in the Compromise of 1877 and the Redeemers gained control throughout the South. As the New Deal began to move Democrats as a whole to the left (at least economically), Southern Democrats largely stayed as conservative as they had always been, with some even breaking off to form farther right-wing splinters like the Dixiecrats. After the Civil Rights Movement successfully challenged the Jim Crow laws and other forms of institutionalized racism, and after the Democrats as a whole came to symbolize the mainstream left of the United States, the form, if not the content, of Southern Democratic politics began to change.

After World War II, during the civil rights movement, Democrats in the South initially still voted loyally with their party. After the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, white voters who became tolerant of diversity began voting against Democratic incumbents for GOP candidates. The Republicans carried many Southern states for the first time since before the Great Depression. Rising educational levels and rising prosperity in the South, combined with shifts to the left by the national Democratic Party on a variety of socio-economic issues, led to widespread abandonment of the Democratic Party by white voters and Republican dominance in many Southern states by the 1990s and 2000s.

When Richard Nixon courted voters with his Southern Strategy, many Democrats became Republicans and the South became fertile ground for the GOP, which conversely was becoming more conservative as the Democrats were becoming more liberal. However, Democratic incumbents still held sway over voters in many states, especially those of the Deep South. In fact, until 2002, Democrats still had much control over Southern politics. It wasn't until the 1990s that Democratic control gradually collapsed, starting with the elections of 1994, in which Republicans gained control of both houses of Congress, through the rest of the decade. Southern Democrats of today who vote for the Democratic ticket are mostly urban liberals. Rural residents tend to vote for the Republican ticket, although there are a sizable number of Conservative Democrats.



It's not democrat vs republican.....it's liberal vs conservative.
So we can see that it didn't matter WHAT they were calling themselves at the time.

Yeah, it proves my point. A higher percentage of republicans supported the Civil Rights Bill compared to democrats.

You can rant and spin the truth all you want, but the point is, more Republicans supported the civil right bill. Democrats are closet racists, Republicans just expect everyone to carry their weight. Republicans believe that everyone can achieve the American dream, even minorities. Democrats believe that blacks and other minorities can't do anything on their own so they give them hand outs. Why is Head Start filled with primarily African- Americans? Because Democrats, being the closet racists, believe that black parents can't or won't read to them. Democrats believe the black child needs a head start because they believe they are less intelligent then other children. Hatred and racism started with democrats, the KKK started with democrats, now, to get votes, they pretend that they are for the black man but all their policies have done is...tear families apart, make them dependent on welfare and government assistance. The programs the democrats have set up for blacks and other minorities have only kept these people in a form of slavery.

All Republicans want is all Americans to reach the American dream, we just believe that we shouldn't have give it away for free. We believe that all Americans have the potential..democrats don't.

So, is this to imply that you have to be a Republican to be successful? Let's see...

Herman Cain: CEO of a failed pizza business and attempted to run as a Republican president, even so most people found him too greedy.

Alan Keyes: Failed Presidential run, arrested twice in 2009 for trespassing during an anti-Obama protest, authors a column for the World Nut Daily and is a "birther".

Don King: Who is he promoting now? His prize retired and now he's best known for his hairstyle.

They're not really who I call a success even if they make good money. Not very popular today.

The Rock: Are you refering to the wrestler turned actor? Sure, even so he's also half-Somoan and attended both the Republican Convention and the Democratic Convention, so his political loyalties could be to the left or right or somewhere in the middle. Regardless, some of the movies he was in was not worth the film or the DVDs they were put on.

Martin Luther King, Jr., didn't you forget him? Although he was assasinated, he was successful in my book. It's really a matter of question if he would have remained a Republican since it was the Democratic Party that grew in membership of people in favor of the Civil Rights laws, mostly liberals and moderates, and the segregationists, racists (including the KKK) and the Religious Right joined the Republican Party throughout the 60's and 70's and to this day has had rather questionable track record of human rights, not to mention they are the majority of anti-Muslims and anti-gay advocates, so maybe it's time to find another right-wing conspiracy theory.

Anyway, it isn't the party to me. I vote for those who's shares my values. I won't vote for a Conservative, even if he calls himself a Democrat, because they have this moral attitude that certain people are unworthy unless they become like them and for the last 40 years most of the conservatives have been Republicans. The Tea Party, I'm all for keeping our taxes low, but they are mostly classists and Christian moralists who supports G.W. Bush's tax cuts that forces the lower and middle class to pay for most of this country's expenses. Those government handouts you think goes exclusivly to minorities, there are plenty of whites who receive them too and most of those I've seen sitting homeless in the streets begging for spare change are white.

There is no Democratic conspiracy to hold back minorities, especially when they are responsible for creating the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, signed on the 2nd July, 1965, about four years after Democrat John F. Kennedy signed Executive Order 10925, which required government contractors to "take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed and that employees are treated during employment without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin" (Lyndon Johnson -- whom has been called a racist on this post -- was the head of this act). The EEOC lost about 25% when Bush cut its budget for Homeland Security. The Democrats also have been raising the federal minimum wage, or have been trying to, depite Republican opposition. A good example is the Democratically controlled State of Washington where the minimum wage is $9.04 an hour, higher than the other 49 states.

Try to do some more research of history and politics because this article has been debunked! If you wish to debate this further, please present a few links to support your "facts".

I was only pointing out black republicans or conservatives. There are many successful democrats. The difference is, Republicans believe that everyone has the potential to achieve the American dream, and even if you fail, you still have a second, third and even a 4th chance of success.

Democrats believe that people(especially minorities) need free stuff to succeed. This only traps people in a cycle of dependence on the government. By doing this, democrats are almost guaranteed to get their votes. All that other stuff you talked about is just democrat talking points, yeah, they may have helped a few people but most people are harmed by it. Affirmative action is racist.
