History Of The Democrats And The KKK.....(Why the Democrats started the KKK)

The original targets of the Ku Klux Klan were Republicans, both black and white, according to a new television program and book, which describe how the Democrats started the KKK and for decades harassed the GOP with lynchings and threats.

An estimated 3,446 blacks and 1,297 whites died at the end of KKK ropes from 1882 to 1964.

The documentation has been assembled by David Barton of Wallbu More..ilders and published in his book "Setting the Record Straight: American History in Black & White," which reveals that not only did the Democrats work hand-in-glove with the Ku Klux Klan for generations, they started the KKK and endorsed its mayhem.

"Of all forms of violent intimidation, lynchings were by far the most effective," Barton said in his book. "Republicans often led the efforts to pass federal anti-lynching laws and their platforms consistently called for a ban on lynching. Democrats successfully blocked those bills and their platforms never did condemn lynchings."

Further, the first grand wizard of the KKK was honored at the 1868 Democratic National Convention, no Democrats voted for the 14th Amendment to grant citizenship to former slaves and, to this day, the party website ignores those decades of racism, he said.

The statement is wrong and out of context

#1 It was not "THE democrats" who started the KKK.
This creates the misconception that ALL democrats back in that time were KKK which is a ridiculous assumption.
The people who started it were 19th century Democrats , but certainly not every one agreed with the KKK...

Back in that time the Democrats were Conservative , and the Republicans were Liberal and Progressive..
From the end of the 19th century till the 60's of the 20th century gradually there was a complete ideology change between both parties
The Democrats became more and more progressive while the Republicans became more and more Conservative ..

#2 To make this statement "It were Democrats who started the KKK" in the 21st century only correct when it is said in the context with 18th century history.

#3 To take it out of this context, and spread the assumption that current day Democrats are the same as 18th century Democrats is totally misleading
To correctly say it in political context, it should be: "It were Conservatives who started the KKK"

See ? it makes perfect sense, -nothing- has changed , the conservatives still target the liberals, only (I may hope) they don't lynch them anymore..

Yeah, for all you Republicans using the KKK to lable the Democratic party as racist or communist, you really need to study your American history. The Republican and Democratic parties officially changed ideologies in the 1960's as more and more Democrats supported the civil rights for blacks. The switch actually began during the second world war and FDR was a Democrat who was considered a little more liberal than many Republicans at that time. The "Dixiecrats," many whom where members of the KKK or other white surpremacy groups were finding the Democratic Party was becoming too progressive for their tastes and other church going conservatives were feeling the same. By the 1960's, Republicans- Conservative, Democrats- Liberal. In 1988, David Duke himself ran as a Democrat. He would have stood a better chance if he ran as a Republican and he likely realized that when he later became one, though we'll never see him run for office again.

    Again, study your history!

The question isn't who is the Democratic Party now, the question was who started the KKK. You might not like the answer but it was most definitely Democrats against blacks and republicans. Obviously that has changed but history is history.

And the Democratic party of today denounces the policies of their predecessors and especially the KKK. Maybe it's more important that the Democrats of the 1800's were conservatives and racists, where as the Democrats of the late 20th and 21st century are Progressive and supports civil rights for all people. Are you going to blame the people of Germany for the actions of Hitler and his followers even so they are now a socially democratic nation who won't allow hate groups like neo-Nazis to form or march in their nation?

Hey, I read the history books and articles on the KKK some years ago. And more blacks should too. Man, I already know that they terrorized blacks, and whites that where down with the movement, but when I read that they had the Republicans scared as heck, I kinda laughed, it truly wasn't funny though. I can see why though, through the years the conservatives didn't know how to fight back. Their families and homes were threatened too! So, I chose not to be void of revelation facts.

We know the full history of the KKK. By the 1940's the Democratic Parties were split into two groups and the northern Democrats were becoming more liberal and the Republican Party turned more conservative over twenty years. The Southern Democrats retained their origional roots until they along with the KKK became Republicans in the 60's and 70's. Democrats won't have anything to do with hate groups today. The Republicans have a few of them, even if they aren't wearing white sheets and screaming racist slurs.

Idaho has one of the largest Klan compounds in North America. Visit them this coming 4th of July. Here in Florida, we have Klansmen but you'll never know unless you are invited to one of their 'meetings'. They loath the Republicans and some even refuse to carry 5 dollar bills because of Lincoln. If you want hate groups, join a union, or the Nation of Islam, how about the New Black Panther party, perhaps throw in with Jesse or Al,these groups are generally associated with the Democrats. Hate groups associated with Republicans are numerous christian groups, the TEA party and those who want Roe vs Wade overturned, a judicial decision, not something that was passed in the house and senate. This was the first breech of the constitutional, having the judicial branch do the legislators job.

As a child I had relatives in the Klan, in small communities in the south the sheriff can't be everywhere and sometimes the local men step in and "handle" things. Once, a man who was known to steal his mothers social security money to buy liquor was taken out into the woods, chained to a pine tree and horse whipped. Another time the same man pushed his mother off the front porch and she broke her hip. The Klan made him disappear. I'm not saying what they did was right but if someone got out of line, they were there to "straighten them out".

As do I, which is why I'm voting for the Left.

How do your relatives vote when they are part of the KKK and Democrats when the Democratic Party are inclusive of people they have always hated? I'll assume they don't anymore since there aren't any one whom they would consider worthy leaders, no one that would stand a chance in the polls these days and most, if not all, would be Republicans. You just pointed out the obvious- the KKK are backwards and you're basing your personal views on your upbringing. Twisted!

There are 3 college educated persons in my family,(both sides) when I try to present the truth (republicans are constitutionalist and democrats are socialist)to my "backward" relatives, I'm called everything from a liar to N!&&3R lover, they didn't vote for Obama but did vote in the general election. One cannot help ones upbringing however one can go out into the world and educate themselves and separate themselves from that upbringing.

Your relatives are Democratic KKK members. That makes them a minority since most of the KKK has become Republicans. Do more reading because other Democrats wouldn't want men in white robes.

Why do you think MLK was a republican as were all blacks in those days? Dems were and still are sneaky creatures. Now they want to control the masses. BO is black so now blacks are dems..pure and simple. There is still white guilt so they vote BO. Pure and simple. No one in their right frame of mind would have supported BO to begin with or still support him after finding out he is a nowhere man.
