Hilton's Jail Term Cut to About 23 Days?

K man May 17, 2007 02:30:13

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Paris Hilton will serve about half of her 45-day jail sentence and will be separated from the general inmate population, authorities said Wednesday.

The hotel heiress will spend about 23 days in a "special needs housing unit" at the Century Regional Detention Center in suburban Lynwood, Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

Her sentence was shortened after jail officials gave her credit for good behavior, Whitmore said. Officials considered several factors in calculating the credit, including that she appeared for her latest court date, he said.

Hilton will stay in a unit that contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates, he said.

Do you think that this is fair treatment of Paris or is she being given preferential treatment?

HEY SodaHeads – If you think this is a decent poll, can you spare a rave? Thanks.
You!

uh...let me correct you. people don't like rich people to get into trouble at all--THEY get themselves into it! people also don't like to be sucker punched by or seen people get it easy for SIMILAR offenses while others have to suffer a harsher fate. it's called breaking the law and since we ALL live in society and have to abide by these laws, we all should get the same treatment--rich or poor. but keeping it real like you said, i guess "some" RICH people can get better treatment as we've seen in this case! it's really unfair to the rest of "normal" folks but hey...it's beyond my control! i just wonder which one of the Hilton ladies (Paris or her momma) had to do to someone in order to get this reduced...hmmm

I am glad that they didn't let her off the hook completely, but come on... a reduced sentence for showing up to her court date???? Sounds like preferential treatment today! I thought court dates were mandatory, not a sign of "good behavior."

There's been a lot of votes on this and I appreciate that. My opinion is that, because she is such a huge public figure and role model for young people (I know - she's a bad role model) that to reduce her sentence on a DUI sends a very bad message to millions of people. In that sense it is preferential treatment, in my opinion.

She should have shut up and done the 45 days - it's not an eternity and it's not like she has a JOB or anything. Those in charge should have stood their ground.

The bottom line is, if Paris had half a brain, she would hire a driver. She has more money than she could ever manage to spend; a driver would be loose change for her.

This is not unusual for a judge to make such a decision. The average citizen is granted similar decisions given the factors considered in Paris' case. At least she WAS given a jail sentence. Community service might not be a bad idea for her to serve in addition to the jail sentence. Marky :o)

I don't believe that 23 days will change her behavior or attitude. Nor would 45 days. She'll come out whining louder than ever. I suppose the folks who this is fairest to are the jail personnel who will not have to be subjected to her tantrums quite as long. We should take pity on them.

    This is fair

Yes she has been given preferential treatment but I really don't think she would make it in general population for 45 days for two reasons: 1) she's never had to deal with reality and 2) she would be somewhat of a target.

After pulling over her 2007 Bentley Continental GTC Convertible,
officers found Hilton was driving with a suspended license – the result
of her DUI arrest last September.
In that case, she pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of
alcohol-related reckless driving on Jan. 22, and was placed on 36
    months probation.
