High School Girl Spanked By Principal: Good Idea or WTF?

Spankings in school are not allowed in my state, but if I get in trouble there I still get them at home.

Girls need to be accountable as much as boys and a school paddling does just that with out getting off easy on their discipline. A lasting reminder for them when sitting after.

The problem with this type of punishment in school is one of liability. How does the administrator know that he or she may not accidentally cause serious harm? There is just too much liability there for a school to take. Imagine if this girl received a back injury (or if you want to by cynical, claimed she had a back injury).

Great idea!!!!! More high school girls need to be spanked over the knee bare bottom until their plump cheeks are fire engine red. Or you can have them end up like Lindsay Lohan, the choice is yours.

That is wrong in so many ways. You can't put a hand on a student at all! Plus, thats sexual harassment. Principal needs to get arrested and go to jail.

People always seem to assume the worst of every situation these days; hell, I was spanked as a child and turned out fine, so have many generations of non-scarred (mentally and physically) people, many of whome never went into S&M; afterwards.
There is, however, a line between discipline and abuse that can be easly crossed if the adult in the matter is not responsiable enough.

Since when do children run the show ? I don't approve of swatting. Keep thy ass covered, notify the parents and let them hand out the punishment. Schools have to much control over children anyway.

I read somewhere that the girl chose the spanking versus a couple of hours of detention. Then also she was supposed to have been spanked by a female teacher at the school.

The first source is purely speculatory and gives no actual data.
The second is mostly speculation but gives a little, but honest, data to back it up; also stating that it is possiable, not absolute or even likely, that spanking could link to minor mental illness. In my own speculation, either there was verbal abuse involved in some cases or the child allready had a fragile phyche to begin with.
I am not shooting down the idea of a possiable link, I am just saying that it is a very weak one, and more importantly that these incidents are often blown out of preportion; much like the apparent obesity problems in the U.S.
I am not trying to change your opinion, I just like to pick on comments that claim "proven" to a often subjective study.

Teachers (whom I normally disagree with) need more leverage when it comes to discipline. There is a fine line between extreme.
Kids nowadays need more discipline than ever.
They will not get it at any public institution since it is controlled my Marxists(I use the term loosely; you can substitute any diverse faction you choose) at the highest levels.

And it is indeed a problem, especially in the age groups about 5 to 10 years younger than my own...my age group is far from innocent of cource.
The "whats the big deal" was aimed at the controversy over spanking.
Most kids I knew growing up were spanked and are turning out fine; and, in my case, because I was spanked when I was little it was not needed by that age.

I was spanked; and when I was in HS there were kids that really needed discipline that was lacking - and that was the '60's!!!
