Here's a way for both atheists and christians to be happy; would you be ok with Cardinal Controled Zones?

This seems like a fair compromise.
No there is something wrong with this deal.

the Idea is based off of something I read about Europe where they want to accomidate both Muslims and Europe's large Atheist population. They have Sharia Controlled Zones or areas where Muslims can live together in a community away from any non-Muslims and live in accordance with their sacred laws. What I am suggesting is giving Christians these Cardinal Controlled Zones where both their religious laws and america's secular laws apply and they can have laws banning things that their faith object to within their own zones and can make whatever regulations they want on who they want to live in the zones but can't ban those same things outside these zones. The Christians voluntarily live there by choice in exchange they are given the right to live according to their religious law without interference from other people. What do you think about this idea?

I think we should give all the dry land to the atheists and the bottom of the ocean to the Christians and muslims. That way their god can teach them all to breath underwater and the rest of us will not have to deal with them anymore

What is wrong with people (extremists, mainly, I guess), following the solution we already have in place -- THE AMERICAN CONSTITUTION!?

..how about common-sense tolerance of one another??...too liberal?? (or progressive, whatever they're called..)...and do these "Sharia Zones" allow the "honor killing" of women (what a strange term for murder..where's the "honor" in murder) for myriad offenses?? How does this work, exactly??

I think I am getting it now.
Americans have a strong feeling of entitlement, of the feeling, "I know my rights."

It is not a bad thing about us, but there is a rigidity that i can see kicking in, as a counter to the offer of going to a zone, even where they may be happier.

You will be happier here -- yes, but I can go anywhere and everywhere and you better accomodate me.

We do not all feel like that, but you are talking about extremists.

We've tried something like this before, when we gave Native American their own "zones", also known as "reservations". They were quite displeased with the end result; probably because they got screwed. And in this scenario, everyone but Christians (because they are the majority) would get screwed.
Instead, why don't we try this: we have one country, in which no religion has control of government, but each religion is free to practice as they see fit, provided that they don't violate anyone elses rights. All religions could share the whole country, and we could be one nation, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. What do you think?

We tried that, the place is America, unfortunately the majority Christians didn't like being told they couldn't force their beliefs on everyone else, so they went around complaining that their rights were being violated.
They made moral rules that you had to be like them to hold office and if you were different they ridiculed you. If you became powerful or showed you had influence on others they created lies about your character and beliefs to discredit and shame you until you no longer poised a threat to their desire to control the government and make everyone worship their God.

Wishful thinking? Maybe, it would be nice if they could just see how silly their beliefs are how they think they have an answer that negates every bit of logic that makes there supreme being no more believable then Santa or the Easter bunny.
I see their whining about how we need to listen to them and let them guide us, how they are the only ones who are right and that we need to have faith without proof that their way is the correct way a bit pathetic.
I guess if they would practice what they preach and keep to themselves it would be tolerable.

Why don't we just build another Berlin wall. This country will not tolerate a separation of people by zones are walls. This is America only criminals are put into segregated areas.

the idea is that it is voluntary christians could live outside the wall but none of their religious laws apply outside the Cardinal Control Zones. I guess I should have mentioned it is totally voluntary. does that make it better I fixed that?

sure, why wouldn't a lot of fundamentalist religious people move voluntarily to these places?
  • BHGOzzy gregory... 2012/05/02 04:44:43
    BHGOzzy
Of course they would, but it would still encourage human rights violations and in the long run hurt way too many for my liking. Hell, the intentional acceptance of these violations in the name of "religious tolerance" isn't tolerance at all, it's complacency in the violation of human rights, and in some cases, the literal violation of women AND children.

It seems to function well in Europe with the Sharia Controlled Zones but you make a valid point about it being potentially problematic like separate but equal.

Come on, what country in Europe allows women to have acid thrown in their faces or thieves to get their hands cut off and what ever ridicules crap that goes on under Sharia Law.

well people live there voluntarily, no one is forcing them there but they can't then complain about things like the legalization of abortion or gay marriage seeing as they then have a place within this country where they could live where they wouldn't be affected by either.
  • gregory.ditzler 2012/05/01 23:59:47
This seems like a fair compromise.
    gregory.ditzler
Religious laws wouldn't infringe on secular law and religious laws would only affect the people living in these zones.
