Well, when you get down to it - he was never anything other than a man bent on a dictatorship. BUT, that is what he said he was

He was an authoritarian, basically - he wanted to control everything.

How did the feminists destroy families?

The traditional family was near enough destroyed - single parent families started popping up everywhere, and by going out to work they left children at home and/or started using the school system as child care. That's when things went wrong...

So, you say but I am the child of a single parent and I have it better than most of the people I know with two parents so I don't see it. Perhaps you are actually sexist.

It all depends. If your parent has a good amount of money, it doesn't matter. If not, having two parents is better. I'm not sexist, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks of the women's movement, I just wish they weren't so impatient about it - as soon as they were allowed, all the women jetted off and left their children at home all the time - this led to the bad morals of today, they should have waited until they got it all sorted out and the New Man came into play - it was a big shock to society.

Well, who are you to say who has bad morals? Just because the christian dogma is becoming a minority doesn't make it bad quite the opposite. Also what is this new man you speak of?

The 'new man' is a sociological term of a man that partakes in joint conjugal roles, so he does housework and looks after the kids and goes to work as well. As opposed to how men were when the women all ran off to work, most of them couldn't cook or look after children and expected to be respected by their wife. Someone with bad morals goes round stealing, being anti-social, committing crimes, being disrespectful, threatening people, being irresponsible, stabbing people, etc. Basically the young people of today.

Do you know where all these "conservatives" have been hiding for the past fifty years or so? If they exist in any sizable numbers, why is the world and the U.S. facing so many problems that obviously these people should have been looking after and preventing? I thought the "Conservative agenda" pretty much ruled the world and the U.S. since around January 1981? Not?

Conservatives give to charity more than Liberals. Many believe in the bible, which tells you to help the poor. Also, they want to teach the poor to help themselves rather than having them be reliant on the state. What you are describing are the conservatives that only care about money and think people are unemployed by choice and are poor because they didn't work hard, whereas the government has restricted them with the public school system and the heavily regulated and taxed economy.

I've lived through the changes you have described in your comments. I raised my three children from their early high school age and now am a close confident to them and a grandparent involved with all the offspring. That makes me somewhat of a "new man", well at least sorta.

I can tell you without reservation that it is nothing but right wing propaganda to blame the government for the decline in family values and making the mess of society that we now have. Every step of the way down this trail of social decline has been three identifiable motives, and more promoters than you could count - MONEY, PROFIT, GREED, are the three motives. U. S. corporations and "entrepreneurs" are the promoters, movie houses, porn shops, the "electronic" trash industry, drug purveyors, on and on, to fill a page if all were noted.

We have allowed it to happen, given our children to them, defended them and encouraged them with our purchases and the absurdities of "First Amerndment", "Second Amendment", and other "rights" to defame, inflame, kill and injure, and harm ourselves in a hundred different ways. We deserve all that we have
made and are now so ashamed of.

Moral values have declined because society is segregated and the different classes don't communicate, so poorer people get bad friends and bad role models and end up bad. Then the lack of discipline and teaching moral values in schools and at home, also, because it just isn't the norm any more. I'm very principled, and stick to my moral code at all times, but most People just don't do that any more... Well, the media and our commercialist attitude has helped, but the breakdown of the family is a bigger problem...

Your are so right. The breakdown of the family began right there, with the family. Once we became a "consumer society" where what we have became more important than what we are, the destruction was underway and advertising and marketing became the dominate forces in our development.

Americans cheer when Apple reports that it has more cash reserves than the U.S. Government. When Goldman Sachs reports it has made $50Billion in "trading profits" by selling digital blips to "investors" (that is, your Mutual Funds or retirement account), the pillage is looked upon as a positive thing, an example of how rich we are and can afford to have a predator like GS in our midst. We are like sheep running in circles as wolves kill and eat the lambs, just bleating and watching as the carnage makes the wolf pack larger and more vicious.

Before our children can speak they are programmed to "want" a doll from Disney, a dozen toys from Mattel, a cereal from General Foods, and more.
Dad and Mom must have three pairs of "running shores", some "hiking shoes", some "walking shoes", at least three flat screen televisions and a $55,000 pickup truck that has no purpose at all except to show the neighbors they also have a truck in their suburban garage and Dad has some "macho". That is us, what we are, and what we have allowed "corporatism" to make us - foolish puppets to their advertising and accumulation of our wealth.

Indeed. 1950's America only remained traditional because of the fear of communism suppressing any 'new thoughts'. After that, in détente, the radicals started spreading their 'un-American' views. The damage is not quite so bad in England, we are wary of corporations, and we don't feel compelled to compete with our neighbours about who has the most useless consumer goods, but we're still programmed to want all the toys, and it's causing children to grow up too quickly - I mean, there's a barbie toy where you shave Ken!? It's all so ridiculous...
