Have you received the Holy Spirit?

I believe that Acts 2 talks about an acount of the deciples. And we recieve the Holy Spirit by asking and believing in Jesus the Christ.

Luke 11:13 NIV

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

And that speaking in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit already living inside us.

1 Corinthians 12:4-11

4There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.

7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

I have interpreted one time though. It was awesome!

Praise God I have! I thank God I lost my english back in Feb of 2005. I have been on fire ever since. For the record, nobody has the Holy Ghost until they have spoke in tongues. That was THE sign in the book of Acts and its still THE sign today! Acts 2

Can somebody explain to this Jew what is meant by Holy Spirit, and how that's distinguished from God?

Well from my understanding in Luke 24 Jesus said that he died so that he could send a gift from the father and we would be "endued with power from on higher" in Acts 2 it talks about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to the first church, when they were all praying they received the Holy Spirit and spoke with new tongues. my understanding is that God has made a gift available for us to have, we just have to ask. with this gift we can do all the great things it talks about in Mark 16 and we can also enter into heaven.

Yes but there are many times in my life when I have let rage and immorality have more influence over my soul than the Holy Spirit...but then this is the great struggle of life isn't it?

Yes and I have put the fear of God into many a man's heart.

At the age of 10 I can remember praying to God to fill me with the Holy Spirit and he gave it to me. The only reason I knew I had it though was because I spoke with new tongues, in a wonderful language the lord had given me. A language that I couldn’t even understand so that I cannot defile it. A “pure” language like it says in Zephaniah3.

I am not a big believer...i wish i was, but i so much admire your beliefs!
