And to think: They could establish their primary call centers in America and have the offshore ones as auxiliary centers for when the call flow in the other offices is too high.

I had problems with my cell phone with a pay-as-you-go company. I called them and got an operator that I couldn't understand at all. I am a retired nurse, and am usually pretty good at understanding dialects, but eventually gave up and hung up. I had pretty well decided to change companies and cell phones anyway.

I spent hours the last couple of days dealing with Verizon's DSL Data Tech Support. It is and has been for years in India. They have people with terrible communication skills and that do not listen;. When you ask for a supervisor or to be transferred to a US office they argue with you, make excuses and even hung up on me after they put me on hold for 30 minutes.

I have lived and worked in Africa, Latin America and the South Pacific. I am good understanding accents. They just hire people that have poor communications skills to begin with and lousy attitudes

I don't believe so, not for companies that put long-term sustainability ahead of short-term profits. You can't have people supporting your product if there's no one to buy it. Also, people who tend to have poor support experience will vote with their dollar the next time they make a purchase. Not every company off-shores their call centers and consumers are connected now more than ever thanks to the internets.

Because I don't talk to them, I pass them off to my husband who has no problem understanding them.

And just because you speak to an American doesn't mean you'll always comprehend who's on the other end of the line.

It's gotten to the point where I ask the to transfer me to an American specialist on anything before I even ask a question or present my problem.

I am usually met with hatred, disdain, hang ups, etc.
