Have You Ever Donated Blood?

The American Red Cross is facing a dilemma that could end up affecting millions of Americans. According to The Red Cross, as per USA Today, the organization's national blood supply is at its lowest level in 15 years. What that means is, for whatever reason, less people are donating blood, which is bad news for patients in need of just that.

The organization says summers are normally bad for donations because schools that host blood drives are closed and people are often on vacation. However, this summer has been worse than usual. Severe heat and bad storms have caused people to opt to stay home and have led to the cancellation of various blood drives throughout the country.

Giving blood may seem "scary" to some, but you never know if your donation will end up saving another person's life. And if The Red Cross is unable to up donation levels quickly, doctors around the country are going to have to start canceling surgeries. "We need to do everything we can to make sure it doesn't get to that point," said Richard Benjamin, chief medical officer for the Red Cross.

doesn't matter if you chew it or not.recognizable bits of food commonly show up in a persons feces. except of course if your one of the sheeple. grass and hay usually does not apply.

not always. like i said not all food is completely digested always. some nuts and vegetable matter can pass through your system before being completely digested.

Let me guess you feel that you should not be charged for anything and that only YOU should have it.
I wonder what would happen if you were in an accident and needed an immediate transfusion and others thought the same as you....YOUD BE PUSHING UP DASIES..Remind me of that when I go to Norway the next time...and remind me of that the next time NORWAY ASKS FOR A HAND OUT FROM THE UNITED STATES.

A few gallons, but I'm hesitant to even respond to this because so many "Holier-Than_thou" types have insulted everyone who they disagreed with. Are there that many Liberals here (they are almost universally the ones that do it)?

Not according to the stats at the top. 82% of conservatives posting here have donated, whereas 49% of liberals.

    Edited for wording.

I don't get the Liberals vs Conservatives mindset. I'm a treehugger, feminist homemaker leathercrafter, pro choice (but I choose personally NOT to abort), pro equality pagan pastafarian zen Buddhist who donates blood. I must be a freak.

Well, I wouldn't go THAT far. It is a pretty hefty-gauge needle. Depends on the tech you get, too. Some are better than others.

I've been eating well. The hospital gives out free orange juice and cookies and all I have to do is give them a pint of blood. I ate there all week, three times a day.

I quit when I cut myself shaving and nothing came out but air.

No but they are the ones that discriminate against people by not accepting openly gay people.....so thats that......
I never thought of giving blood nor do i know where to donate it or if my blood is any good

They don't discriminate against gay people, they discriminate against people that have unprotected anal sex and people that have sex with animals because they pose too high of a risk of passing on an infection to one of their patients.

    do they ask straight couples?
Also do they not test the blood? this trust thing sounds stupid

    Yes, they ask everyone.

I can tell them I'm straight but they still ask me if I have ever had unprotected anal sex and/or sex with animals.

Being gay will not disqualify you, it's your lifestyle choices that could disqualify you.

And you can't have gotten a tattoo or piercings within so much of a time before. They are making it tougher and tougher all of the time. Many years ago they just stuck me and took blood, now it's a 10 pages of questions before and then they may say you don't qualify. Just test it and use what's good.

Yep, it's not sexual preference, it's the choices you make and the activities you engage in that can disqualify your blood.

Yeppers, but it's more and more of a hassle for anyone to do it. Hence the reason for less blood.
