Have You Ever Donated Blood?

The American Red Cross is facing a dilemma that could end up affecting millions of Americans. According to The Red Cross, as per USA Today, the organization's national blood supply is at its lowest level in 15 years. What that means is, for whatever reason, less people are donating blood, which is bad news for patients in need of just that.

The organization says summers are normally bad for donations because schools that host blood drives are closed and people are often on vacation. However, this summer has been worse than usual. Severe heat and bad storms have caused people to opt to stay home and have led to the cancellation of various blood drives throughout the country.

Giving blood may seem "scary" to some, but you never know if your donation will end up saving another person's life. And if The Red Cross is unable to up donation levels quickly, doctors around the country are going to have to start canceling surgeries. "We need to do everything we can to make sure it doesn't get to that point," said Richard Benjamin, chief medical officer for the Red Cross.

Even when I was younger and with a rare blood type, my blood was never acceptable since I had had malaria.

And I refuse to. Why let the medical rip-off industry profiteer off of my blood, sharing none of the profits with me, until they lower the skyrocketing medical costs?

Donating blood seems the obvious pro-life thing to do. But not to this corrupt greedy Big Pharma, pill-pushing, rip-off, American medical industry. Maybe after I escape America, and move to a better country, then I will have to reconsider?

I have been a regular donor of whole blood and platelets. Platelets take longer to donate, and they are needed particularly for cancer patients.

Used to donate like clockwork, every 8 weeks for whole blood. And a lot of pheresis. But the country has a "me-first" attitude about everything now and I have trouble getting motivated.
Perhaps when we have leadership again.

I'm O-negative and I give double reds every four months. I like the mental rewards of giving blood in any form, since it seems to me that , w/ relatively few medically-based exceptions, it's a no-BS type of thing that you elect to do if you have respect for mankind. My older son was going to get a tattoo and I told him it might interfere with him giving blood; he looked into it and said it probably wouldn't, but why create a risk, and didn't get the tattoo. I told him I couldn't describe how proud he'd made me in that little vignette.

How do you think I paid for my college??? They were giving $15 for every time you donated, and you could do it twice a month.
