Have the Liberal Democrats diverted enough attention to Birth Control, Abortion and Women's Rights yet?

KCurtis 2012/03/03 00:17:23
Now coming from an advocate of woman's rights since before it was cool, having burned my bra in the 60's and protested equal pay for equal work; you're not dealing with some amateur here. But the fact is, none of this rhetoric is relevant to 2012 and the issues the United States is facing.

Now if you speak to a liberal, which I tend not to do, you'll hear all the crying and sobbing over the GOP's terrible fight against women's rights. Really?

A college student studying law at a cost of 60k a year sitting on Capitol Hill whining about the $1000 dollars a year cost for her birth control pills. Not a necessity mind you; unless having sex is the primary concern of your education, not food, not clothing, not even the cost of education, but the cost of one form of preventative measure to stop pregnancy. Never mind the prevention of STD's; apparently even AIDS is not as much of a concern as pregnancy. Woe is me. Poor little Liberal rich girl forking out 60k to be a lawyer but can afford the cost of a free lay.

And yet this is the MAJOR news. Rush calling her out for being the slut she is. Obama calling her on the phone to tell her what a hero she is for the liberal progressive loons. Sebillus interpreting the Obamacare mess to side with her whining.

And no one, not a freaking soul, is talking about Gas up to $4 a gallon, groceries up 70% and Fannie and Freddie looking for another undisclosed billions in bailouts. No one is talking about the fact that Obamacare costing 111 billion more than originally estimated. Chevy Volt factory shutting down due to poor sales laying off thousand of workers. Obama forking over 8 billion in Green Energy subsidies while complaining about subsidies for fossil fuel of 4.4 billion. At least the Fossil Fuel subsidized companies are still in business.

All this news and what are we talking about? Freaking Birth Control Pills for a bimbo. Gotta love America folks.

I laughed until I fell out of my chair when I heard that twit. Being a guy I have no real idea of the cost for Birth Control, so I used this site to get my base. http://money.usnews.com/money...

According to this site, about $400 a year is the price of the more expensive methods. So what is she doing that is costing her $1000 a year? Personally, I think it's a NON Issue. A distraction for the left so they can get something bigger past the people.

President Obama re: the debt ceiling: "The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

Me--> Did he even take the time to TRY and understand why the debt ceiling was being raised by others? Glad to see he took the job so seriously that he did research to try and understand what would happen if it wasn't raised. It's pretty clear that when he was in the Senate, he really didn't take the time, or effort, to try and understand the issue. He just blindly held the opposing opinion. What do you do with someone who doesn't make the effort on behalf of the entire country to understand such an important issue, but then runs around yelling fire in a crowded theatre? Is this the behavior of someone who REALLY cares? Yeah, REALLY CARES about himself!
  • Snowball Snowball 2012/03/07 16:30:02
The point is IF he did understand it, and got all his followers ramped up on the issue- where was his solution???? Nice to see he's the kind of guy who will be the first to throw a stone at a sinner, but claims he deserves to be treated differently. Forget the fact that he didn't care enough to understand the issue in the first place for the sake of trying to solve the problem. Only to divide people. This is a repeating pattern of the Obama presidency.

I am so sick of the media manipulating us. When Obama ran did they bring up his record of claiming to help people in his district as a State Senator who had been effected by nuclear waste leaking into their ground water-- but in the end he didn't - AND hired Axelrod who was a consultant for that nuclear power plant as his campaign chief? Google NY Times, exelon, Obama. Did they highlight his Senate voting record of being late all the time, not taking a position on an unusually high number of issues, and voting neither yes or no? Or how about asking "what about the drug company reform (the real issue), he promised to address -->' it's not right for drug companies to charge more here than Canada'. Or how about those Senate votes where he "voted wrong- and asked to change his vote (google La times, Obama, pressed wrong button). I guess it really doesn't matter. His "followers" would don't care if he really means anything he says. They've been trained to blindly defend him. Just like George Stephanopolous (sp?).

Its a diversion. You can be sure something especially unconstitutional and heinous is being cooked up behind closed doors while every one is outraging over the birth control issue.

The ship is sinking and the only thing Obama is worried about is making sure people don't get pregnant while we all go under. So nice to allow him to play king with taxpayer $ that should be going to pay off the deficit so our children have a chance at a future. The deficit is killing the valuation of our currency, and we are COUNTING on China to continue lending to us? Forget a bomb, people like the Occupy Wallstreet protestors will burn everything to the ground like the LA Riots when China refuses to fund our Government & it's programs and they don't get it because Obama nurtured their sense of injury and enabled their sense of entitlement. Obama is more concerned with trying to est. a legacy by creating green energy at the worst time possible- and like w/ Freddie & Fannie re: Barney Frank & Maxine Waters are so hell bent on doing what they "think" is right at the cost of common sense and eventually not only hurting those they wanted to help, but everyone else. He's so blind- THE MARKET ISN'T THERE RIGHT NOW, and China does it for CHEAPER! But he continues to want to force feed a toddler who just isn't hungry- and they're confined to a high chair crying. (would make a great commercial against him).

Seems to me that it's the Republicans who brought up these issues, Santorum speaking out against birth control, Repub Congressmen having a hearing on birth control with no women,Virginia forcing ultrasound on pregnant women and Rush Limbaugh slandering a young woman ( who you never would have heard of, otherwise) for using birth control. The Repugs know they can't win on the economy so they create "wedge" issues, after all, they invented the tactic.
They're only 50 years too late for the birth control debate, but, hey, thanks for alienating female voters and helping Obama win.
  • gilbert... gilbert... 2012/03/03 12:29:45
Actually, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Alabama, as well as Virginia have all had "forced ultrasound" legislation introduced by Repugs.

The question was brought up by Stephanopoulus . . . a former Democratic White House spokesperson.
But nice try on trying to spin the truth.
It seems that's all Democrats can do to hide the failings of this President.
  • gilbert... Cognito22 2012/03/03 14:00:58

That's still not a question. I asked what question you were referring to and I also asked you politely to try and be clear. Sorry for your failure on both counts.
  • Cognito22 gilbert... 2012/03/04 12:47:17
The "question" was the question asked by the moderator George Stephanopoulus in the Republican presidential candidate debates.
The "question" was the first time the issue of government involvement in contraception was brought up . . . not by any of the candidates themselves as you contended.
I also supplied a link to make this perfectly clear.
    Sorry if it failed.
  • Cognito22 gilbert... 2012/03/03 14:10:22
And Limbaugh wasn't "slandering a young woman ( who you never would have heard of, otherwise) for using birth control."

He was objecting to her wanting us to pay for the cost of her having sex.
What else do you call someone who asks for money to have sex?
  • gilbert... Cognito22 2012/03/04 07:16:09
You don't consider "slut" and "prostitute" to be slander? I guess a court of law will eventually decide that.
And, please. let's try to talk about what she really said, not the words that Rush has tried to put in her mouth. She never said she wants anyone to pay the cost of her having sex and she never asked for money for sex. In fact, she was testifying about friends of hers who need birth control pills because of other health issues.
"The Pill" has many uses besides contraception, just ask any woman, if you know one.
  • Cognito22 gilbert... 2012/03/04 13:56:09
"She never said she wants anyone to pay the cost of her having sex and she never asked for money for sex."

    I beg to differ.
She was testifying in support of Obama's contraception compromise.
Obama's compromise is to mandate employers offer insurance that includes contraception AND the insurance companies are NOT allowed to raise the premium with that added coverage.
It's not as if she is asking for a rider to her insurance coverage that she pays for herself . . . which is the standard practice.
The fact that the insurance company cannot raise her premiums means her added coverage must be distributed to other customers of that insurance company. That means someone else bears the cost of her using contraception to have sex. So in affect we are paying for the cost of her sex.
Why am I paying for the cost of her sexual activity?
I am not being serviced by her.
  • Sheila gilbert... 2012/03/08 20:18:24
LOL, if you have so much sex that you can't afford the birth control then you are having too much sex. Too much = slut.

If not being used for birth control then the pill is covered.
  • gilbert... Sheila 2012/03/10 10:30:58
LOL, the cost of birth control doesn't depend on how often you have sex.
  • Sheila gilbert... 2012/03/12 14:23:43
Sure it does. If I have no sex I need no birth control. If you are using condoms then you use one per sexual encounter. If you use spermacides you use per encounter. If you can't afford to cover YOUR OWN costs of sex you are having too much sex.
  • gilbert... Sheila 2012/03/13 10:35:31
Sorry, but if someone is using the birth control pill, and I believe that is what Ms. Flukes was referring to, the cost does not vary according to how much sex one has, And the pill has other uses as well.
And, by the way, Rushbo implied that ANYONE using birth control is a slut and a prostitute and since 98% of American women use birth control at some point in their life, that includes YOUR mother, sister, girlfriend. daughter, etc.
