Has China replaced the U.S. as the world’s leading superpower.

China is argued to soon become the world's largest economy and to be
making rapid progress in many areas. The United States is seen as a
declining superpower as indicated by factors such as poor economic
recovery, financial disorder, high deficit and unemployment, and
increasing political polarization.

But I don't doubt they will replace us shortly as the largest economy. The political clout will come with increased economic strength.

What some folks seem to miss is that India will overtake China in population in a few decades, Brazil & Indonesia aren't that far behind so there could be many players over the same period.

But they're getting damn close. As long as we have republicans (and some democrats) who're shills for the plutocrats and oligarchs who want to thwart American into a corporatocracy, and keep spending like drunken sailors in the military industrial complex, and not invest in the American worker, education, infrastructure, and clean renewable, cheaper, and more efficient energies we will continue to fall further and further behind.

I'm not sure the politicians would admit it nor inform us if this were to be the case after all, It's their policies and legislation that will have created that scenario and yes, for special interest profit. People must understand that for years now China realized that they had a large population 1.3B people most of which are effectively unemployed and impoverished. Keeping this in mind they realized that they had the workforce capability to produce valuable commodities that could easily be marketed internationally. They first relaxed their capitalistic regs and encouraged growth in the manufacturing sector and marketing/trade proceeded to corner the production and shipping facilities to the point where they supply the world with the majority of consumer goods and corporate needs. For example today 80-90% of all toys are made there. As i understand from one of my guides, China has about 150 million people in the economic loop as consumers. They are currently building and developing what they believe will be the largest tourist destination in the world, they may be right. China also is aware that its own population represents, next to India, that they have the largest potential consumption base in the world which as growth occurs will fuel their local economy and grow consumpti...

China also is aware that its own population represents, next to India, that they have the largest potential consumption base in the world which as growth occurs will fuel their local economy and grow consumption through jobs. For some years now corporations from all around the world are locating there to ride that wave free of international taxation laws. Personally, I think they're being set-up. Of course thats my speculation. Many people think they're there because of cheap labor and lack of regulation but that is off-set by the required "National" interest (partnership), in the company and further, they do not own the property, its basically a lease for so many years that needs to be re-negotiated. My opinion is that this inevitability could be stemmed by fuel our own manufacturing, using the power of tariff to equal the playing field while at the same time not making us totally dependent on their good, products and services. We're screwed if they throw the switch, they won't need a bomb! As i write this opinion our best engineers are headed to china and India Viet Nam etc. for employment, where as teams there (ground zero), they can develop innovative ideas simply because we've out-sourced production and manufacturing. Just my read on things, spent 35 days touring China and discussing the matter. regards.

You know that thirty years ago, people were worried that Germany and Japan were going to pass the USA in GNP and leave us in the dust. Thirty years have come and gone and we are still number one. I guess I'll have to see it to believe it.

China will pass the USA as an economic super-power in the next few years, but the USA (in all it's stupor) will continue to spend enormous amounts on military might at the expense of domestic necessities, education, infrastructure, etc. ... The Capitalists will continue to move their monies to wherever they get the best return and the USA will fall further and further behind other industrialized countries. It's twue ...

54 percent of Americans doubt China will overtake America in the Superpower race - that means 46% of you think it will. I don't think they are there yet, but I think they could be a real threat the Americas dominating position over the years as the leading Superpower. I am not quite sure how I feel about that to be honest

They already have a much stronger economy. However, their strong economy is at the expense of it's citizens. Most of China's population fears the return of communism and far is too rebellious. If the Chinese population was in better harmony, then they would definitely be the largest power in the world. Remember, America is financial chaos not because of a bad economy, per se. America's problem lies in how much they spend on wars...We still have control of much of Europe, the Middle East, and some of East Asia. As long as we control these resources, America will remain "all powerful"...

By "control", I meant there is heavy U.S. military influence. There is strong U.S. Military presence in Greenland, Germany, Belgium, Turkey, Italy, Spain, and even in parts of England. The U.S has more military bases in Germany than Germany...
