I quit going there because of their political stance... about a year ago. Which is why I think it's silly that this is now a news story because no one cared beforehand. It wasn't like Dan Cathy just made the decision a few weeks ago to say "Oh hey, we decided not to support gay rights anymore."

They probably didn't have any gay customers. The gay and lesbian community tends to know before it becomes headline news, who provides financial support for the anti same sex marriage groups. Chic-fil-A has probably lost some customers among hetrosexuals who just don't understand why these people oppose gay marriage.
See what Lewis Black has to say about this issue.

It's amazing how dumb liberals are on this subject.

They do not discriminate as employers, the owner simply doesn't believe in gay marriage.

Isn't there something called the First Amendment or something?

I am absolutely a liberal! I do support the first amendment and I think government attempts penalize the owner of Chic-fil-A is absolutely wrong. That is the whole purpose of the first amendment - to prevent government from squashing dissent by penalizing those who disagree with government policy. On the other hand boycotting a business, or organizing a boycott is also a first amendment right.

Very correct, but boycott is not working in the case of the Chik Fil A deal. When people supported Chik Fil A on that day they doubled in sales their previous highest sales day.

I doubt they really did lose many gay people if any. If they want to eat there, they will. He never said anything offensive to gays. He stated his personal beliefs. The gay activist want to exploit this to keep anyone else from stating that they oppose gay marrige so that every business will be afraid not to support them. It looks like it has back fired though.

So what. Chick-Fil-A clearly showed that America is not as in love with gayness as the media and Hollywood would like for us to believe.

I wouldn't bet on next year. The people who were offended by Cathy's statement probably weren't eating at Chic- fil- A every week or even every month. Many customers who ate a chic-fil-A 5 or 6 times a year might not return. A fairly large majority of teens in this country (hope for the future) support equal rights for gays. I can visualize many teens trying to convince their parents not to go there any more. Many of the new customers made their one visit to chic-fil-a to show solidarity with his position and will now return to their regular eating habits. Also many of the new customers were the result of fox news reporting that some mayor tried to block a chic- fil- a from opening in that city. If that is what happened, I also find that offensive. Cathy is certainly entitled to his opinion and he is entitled to say it publicly without government harrassment. However, now that I have heard that opinion I refuse to add one penny to his profits. I think anyone who has a gay friend or relative and eats a chic-fil-A should be ashamedt of adding to the profits Cathy has available to spend fighting against gay marriage

They've lost gay customers and they've lost straight customers who believe in gay marriage. They've gained temporary support of a lot of people who think this is a "freedom of speech" issue and they've gained a more lasting following people who will go out of their way to support traditional marriage.

Personally, I think there's nothing wrong with not purchasing things from a restaurant that willing released to the media (a Baptist magazine, yes, but considering they're a popular company it was inevitable the mainstream press would pick it up) their stance on a controversial issue of equality. When Oreo posted a picture of a multicolored cookie, while I supported them, did not feel sorry for their loss of sales from people who are against gay marriage because they would have to be stupid not to predict that. As the president of Chick-fil-a, he should have been prepared for backlash by making his views known during an interview. I support freedom of speech, but I think people need to face the consequences of what they've said no matter how free they are to say it. By saying that he is against gay marriage, many gays and people who support them will stop purchasing from Chick-fil-a--just like a company saying they're for gay marriage will face a boycott from the people who are against it.

Was that just a generic response? Did you even read what I said? Hahaha. What you said is completely irrelevant to what I was discussing.

My stance that I shared in a nutsell:
If you're a public figure or a company going to release a stance on an issue, positive or negative, you should be prepared for the backlash by those who may be offended by your views.

if they Truly lived thier lives as much as they believed in jesus they would be lining up at homeless shelters and food pantries to donate food to the homeless

How do you no that some of the people don't do this already . Just because your a Christian doesn't mean you have to work in homeless shelters or food pantries . You give from your heart money and time but there's no set of time or money you must donate to charity .
