Harry Reid's best Carnac the Magnificent impersonation; who hasn't paid their federal taxes for the last 10 years?

Quietman ~PWCM~JLA 2012/08/01 20:02:56
"He didn't pay taxes for 10 years! Now, do I know that that's true? Well, I'm not certain," said Reid. "But obviously he can't release those tax returns. How would it look?

"You guys have said his wealth is $250 million," Reid continued. "Not a chance in the world. It's a lot more than that. I mean, you do pretty well if you don't pay taxes for 10 years when you're making millions and millions of dollars."

Reid is guilty of gross misconduct putting this kind of rumor out on the floor of the
Senate from an anonymous source. He should be sanctioned by the Senate
as unethical and excommunicated from the Mormon Church, if the have such a
thing...............I would take the Morman over this Moron any day to be POTUS.

Outrageous and desperate conduct from a US Senator!

Reid ought to know, he bribed and threatened union members to get re-elected and that doesn't even count the illegal votes he got from dead dogs and people. This guy is nothing but a thug that should be sitting in prison. Wonder where his money is hiding along with Pelosi's......oh!!! That's right, they are in off shore accounts like nearly every American who invests money. You can't make it in the states, it's taxed too heavily plus there's nothing to invest in. I wouldn't have a portfolio left if I had kept my little pittance in this country.

I haven't seen Romney's genetic code written out. I guess that means he's not human. He hasn't presented us with facts to indicate that he HASN'T participated in gay orgies and then killed every single member when he was finished. So he must have done that too! See how easy your backwards logic is?

What was that slogan that the GOP kept chanting when they wanted Obama's birth certificate? Oh, yeah...

"If he has nothing to hide, why not just show it to us?"

Not so much fun when the shoe is on the other foot is it?

By the way, releasing years of tax returns (and not just the years that he knew he was going to be running for office) was a precedent set by his father.

He has paid a ton of taxes. He paid Capital Gains taxes (taxes on investments made with money already taxed) so that was the gov. double dipping. Why hasn't he paid income tax some years? He has not pulled a salary. Income tax is not on all monies made, it is on income from a paid job. Romney paid taxes but has not had a salary so his taxes are on his investments and what he made there, not salary. Reid is playing games with words staing factual truths but intentionally being misleading because too many people don't look any deeper than headlines and soundbites.

    OK....I'm dense. Who 'he'? Romney?

Romney didn't pay taxes for the past ten years? Do we know that? Would anybody be stupid enough to run for president knowing that they have not filed for 10 yrs........

Is it that Romney doesn't WANT to release his returns? What's the requirement?

I say do what's asked whether you are Romney, Bush, obama, or any candidate for the highest office in the land. To withhold anything is going to make the GOP look just as bad as obama.

Ever since George Romney (yes, Mitt's father) released 12 years of tax returns, it became a precedent for all presidential nominees to follow. Mitt Romney released 2 years of returns. They were the 2 years that he knew he would be running for president and knew he would have to release something.
The idea is that, for the years he didn't release, he paid a tax rate lower than that of almost all Americans and may have been a part of the 2009 "these rich people don't have to pay any taxes at all this year" thing. Both of those, and whatever else may be hiding in there, play into the Democrat's narrative that the rich already pay too little in taxes and the tax system is broken and corrupt to favor the rich. And the GOP doesn't want any of that to get out.

Hot flash here. Mitt Romney has been running for President for the last six years at least. And when he was running in 2008, he released. And what ever rate, it was legal. If you don't like the structure, get your Representatives in Congress to get on the problem. Just have to love a conspiricy.

Not all candidates have. Kerry didn't. Obama didn't. Many don't. This is just the opposition party looking to make a no win situation: "If you don't release, you must be hiding something. If you do, we'll spin it to make you look bad." Very similar to what the GOP does to Obama, too. "Release your school records. If you do, we'll tear them apart. If not, you must be hiding something." Its all nonsense. Get back to policies, people.

Romney paid taxes. Lots of them. He didn't pay Income Taxes on some years. Why? He had no income. Does that mean he made no money? NO. It means he had no salary. That is what income taxes are on. He made money off investments, and that is what Capital Gains taxes are on (when you take money already taxed, invest it, and the gov. then taxes you again on what you made). Reid is bing intentionally misleading by stating a fact "Romney didn't pay income tax" when he knows that is because income taxes are only on salary, not just money earned. Romney paid plenty of taxes.

And he actually meant that Mitt Romney had not filed a tax return in ten years, not that the rules somehow canceled out his tax liabilities.

Frankly, the whole tax code is far too intrusive. I own or manage several businesses, and one of them is None Of Your. Unless you are the government. If you are, that gives you the right to pry into my private business to determine how much I owe you.

Tax liability ought to flow only from publicly available facts, not on facts that usually stay private.

Now in this case: Harry Reid is playing with fire. Anyone who wasn't a Senator, making such a charge that turned out to be false, would be subject to a felony charge. Misprision of a felony is a felony in and of itself.

That does not vitiate either the injury or the damage. If anybody but a US Senator said that, he'd get arrested. This is still misprision of a felony. It is worse than turning in a false alarm to a fire department.
