Halloween has a long history some of which is embedded in Pagan rituals. Many folks celebrate it, but is it really something more sinister? What do you really think about Halloween?

Over commercialized and just another holiday with no meaning other than consumerism. (2nd to Christmas???? Come on now they are not even on the same level!)

It does have roots as a pagan holiday, which some interpret pagan as satanic but I wouldn't define them as exactly the same thing. However, if you are a Christian, believing according to the Bible (and I am), you should know that worshiping any other god is the same as worshiping satan himself. So, if you are celebrating a "pagan" holiday you may be giving thanks, adoration, blessing to another god and therefore to satan.

It's been awhile but I used to have a paper on the origins of Halloween, and it's origins are not good. So I as a Christian do not promote Halloween. My kids go to our Hallelujah night at our church which is not on the same night. We don't dress up but it's like a Fall Festival and they get candy, and play games in a safe nonthreatening atmosphere. I make sure that they have plenty of opportunities to dress up in nonthreatening costumes throughout the year so they don't miss out on the fun of dress up. Along time ago when my oldest was little we did go out for Halloween and one of our neighbors who we didn't know jumped from behind a tree all dressed in black and chased after my 4 year old and wouldn't stop--it was horrible and scared him terribly ever since then I do not allow my kids to trick or treat, only exception are our very close neighbors that we know very well, they are allowed to walk to their house with me. Our neighbors are older and they love to see my little one dressed in one of her princess dresses.

Traditionally It is meant as the eve of "All saints day", followed by "all souls day" a Catholic day for praying for the people who have died. Halloween is just a way of saying you are gonna die someday. Also the giving out candy is partially credited to the idea that in order to go to heaven you have to be charitable.

But yeah, Halloween is more or less just a time for harmless dressing up, scaring people, and getting free candy. :p

I get tired of people saying it is satanic. It is rooted in paganism which is not satanic, but the majority of people who celebrate aren't pagan! Just like a lot of the people that celebrate Christmas aren't Christians.

    And...

at anyone who claims it is or ever has been Satanic.

It was originally a celebration of (IIRC) the Autumn equinox, was later incorporated into Christianity as All Hallows' Eve (Hallows' Evening -> Hallows' Even -> Hallows' E'n -> Halloween) and was followed by All Saints' Day.

Halloween has been around before Christianity effected it so it is not satanic. It is merely an old pagan tradition.

This holiday was created for Witches/Warlocks and Satanic rituals. Somehow it ended-up seeming to be a harmless holiday for children to get free candy and other goodies....

Actually, it was the eve of All Saint's Day, originally called "All Hallows Eve" (changed to "Hallowe'en" to shorten it) since the next day was a holy day.

As a matter of fact I do. I think that gifts of love and appreciation should be given every day. It doesn't always have to be literal. It can be kind words, psychical assistants, prayer. Etc. ....
