The news media loves a tragedy. People tune in to watch. Television news, in particular, benefits from its live coverage instead of its in-depth, thoughtful analysis. The TV news only has to show pictures or a live feed of a crime scene to attract millions of viewers. The written media criticizes mass media for its "half-assed reporting." What do you think?

Undeterred by how wrong they got the Columbine shootings 13 years ago, or how disgustingly politicized they turned Jared Loughner's 2011 rampage, the humans who work for and talk with journalistic outlets are again rushing to speculative judgment about Jim Holmes, the suspected Batman murderer in Aurora, Colorado.

Well, I just got paid back! A poster just pointed out a fact that I missed! lol

I don't even harbor a TV in my house.

I really like to keep up with the news, but am becoming very jaded with the American media. Both right and left winger news. I have thought that the BBC, being across the water from us might be less biased because they don't have an agenda.

What's funny is that the MSM initially speculated that James Holmes may have been a Tea Partier. As it turns out, Mr. Holmes is a member of Occupy Wall Street and a registered Democrat.

Furthermore, there's been wide speculation that Mr. Holmes shot up the theater because the main antagonist (and villain) of the "Dark Knight Rises" resembles a left-wing, pro-class warfare Occupier. It's becoming more and more apparent that the motive behind his actions was political.

I believe Boulder (where he went to school) and Aurora are quite close.

To those not residing in the state of Colorado, they could be the same place for all we care.

San Diego and Denver, however, are quite far away from each other.

ok, I now see that you were responding to my first comment. Let me explain myself.

I speculated that Mr. Holmes may have shot up a theater because of the conservative bent of the DKR. While I don't have proof of this, it's certainly a possibility given Mr. Holmes's previous associations (i.e., Democratic Party and OWS). I'll leave it at that.

I don't trust the media in general, as most of them practice lapdog journalism and sensationalism for sales. However, we can pretty much get some good things from Brian Williams because he tries to be more objective and nicer in his reporting style. Many other reporting sources are pretty biased in one direction or another, regardless of what political agenda or "side" they seem to support. People need to keep their heads on their necks a LOT straighter than what these "sources" try to incite about and use their own good, solid reasoning abilities.

Mainstream media is going to try to appeal to the masses and hop all over any element(s) of his supposed **identity** or any visuals while the story is still fresh but his **behavioral** patterns and **mental health** were causative and far more revealing. They're more difficult and labor intensive to gather, understand and present, however.

I wouldn't look major media to be truly educational or exhibit a certain caliber of inquiry. What they offer is too mixed with the entertainment industry and they're owned media corporations controlled by media moguls for whom money and power are the bottom line. Period.
