The news media loves a tragedy. People tune in to watch. Television news, in particular, benefits from its live coverage instead of its in-depth, thoughtful analysis. The TV news only has to show pictures or a live feed of a crime scene to attract millions of viewers. The written media criticizes mass media for its "half-assed reporting." What do you think?

Undeterred by how wrong they got the Columbine shootings 13 years ago, or how disgustingly politicized they turned Jared Loughner's 2011 rampage, the humans who work for and talk with journalistic outlets are again rushing to speculative judgment about Jim Holmes, the suspected Batman murderer in Aurora, Colorado.

I think its pretty bad to profit off of tragic things like last weeks shooting. The new media needs to just report the happening and stop analyzing everything. Its sad how they converge on people that are experiencing a tragic event. Some of these news people are like blood sucking leaches. Americans are blood thirsty. Violence is American culture.

I think this media debacle is just another shining example of the media trying their damnedest to push their agenda down everyone's throats. Instead of doing their job and report news they try and make news and screw everything up in the process.

So who do you trust? The INTERNET self styled citizen journalists? The media are the umpires of the world - they can get it right 99% of the time but everybody notices the 1%. Our media has got weaker over the last 30 years driven by the need to provide infotainment and not offend advertisers, etc... but it's still a much better world and much better understood world because of what they do report and there still is a LOT of good journalism happening and not so much bad journalism as people want you to believe.

This whole thing is no different than the infamous Fast & Furious operation: it's just another incident staged by the government to get rid of our Second Amendment rights.

Fast & Furious failed, so the government is trying again to get rid of the Second Amendment with this staged shooting.

I agree. Folks need to stop being sheeple and following up all these mainstream stars and the media like sheep following a bad shepherd. First this health care fiasco, then a reason to scare people into giving up the second amendment. Hell, they've already got the radio stations set to where they can interrupt at any time for "emergency announcements". I'm glad we still have folks out here who eyes are truly open and can see everything for what it really is.
