Guns sales are up. According to Good Morning America, sales throughout the industry are up anywhere from 30 to 91 percent this quarter, depending on the seller. Cris Parson, who owns a Texas store called the Houston Armory, says part of the reason sales are up is that gun-owners fear the possibility of Obama's second term because "he's never been pro-gun" and will have "nothing to lose."
But that's not it. Parson also blames zombies and doomsday conspiracies, trends spawned by television shows like "Doomsday Preppers" and "The Walking Dead." Of a certain brand of ammunition called Zombie Max, Parsons says, "We can't keep it in stock. It comes in a cool, colorful box with a Zombie on it." What do you think the reason is for higher gun sales? Is it Obama, zombies, doomsday -- or just an increased desire to own a gun?

She taught us to be prepared.
And as I seen hyperinflation (1400% per month), revolution & shortage of food in my country (to buy food you had to use monthly coupons that were used for food rationing - with your money) I can say that everything is possible. In US: hyperinflation & shortage of fuel can start real unrest & fuel class war & racial war. Imagine that there is not enough fuel to deliver food to supermarkets or hyperinflation so high that people can't afford food. Burglary will be like epidemy.
The price of a Semi-Auto AK went up 150-200 dollars this year. I only know this because I was set to buy one. By the time I acquired the "leftover funds", I could afford the AK (barely), but couldn't afford as much ammunition as I would have liked (240 vs 500+ rounds). For the price of ammunition I paid, I could have bought 4x as much in 2007 for the same price. The Firearms market is like any other market. Prices are based on speculation of supply/demand which is in turn based on speculation of current events and lawmaking. The economy, while admittedly improving in some aspects, still sucks.
Oh, and never bring skittles to a gunfight.
Good riddance?
That's why the native Americans lost.
The inverse is why the colonials won the revolutionary war. Had they been armed with bows and arrows they would have either been bombed back to the sod age or utterly destroyed.
Just because your friends have neither been smart enough or honest enough to indicate how wrong you are regarding topics such as this, doesn't mean you are right.
No.
Words have meaning and there are laws in every state prohibiting the "brandishing" of all weapons, not just firearms.
"I don't agree that people need, or should have, guns in todays society."
Amendment two states, "a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed".
Note that is says the right of the people, not the right of the militia. That means me and you, not the police and not the armed forces.
Rights are not predicated on need.
Translation: For the sake of security, the governing body of a sovereign state needs a well armed militia. Since there will inherently be such a militia, the ability of the people to take up arms for the purpose of defending themselves from said governing body should never be infringed.
"You aren't going to change my mind, in fact you'll probably strengthen it."
Good... your mind is in serious need of strengthening.
Amendment 2 means nothing to me. Less than nothing even. I don't come from America, fools with the right to own guns isn't my domain.
"Good... your mind is in serious need of strengthening."
Well, frankly, that was just rude. And yes, you have strengthened my opinions. The less people with guns in this world, the better. Especially those people such as yourself.
I wasn't being hyperbolic. I supported my position with historical facts, whereas you rely on emotions to make your point.
Tolerating the suppression of one's rights at the hands of an oppressive government is far more foolish than fighting to preserve the right to defend oneself from such a government.
Rights don't come from the state, but rather from our ancestors. Whether a state chooses to reinforce our rights or infringe upon them is the distinction.
I would rather risk the perils of too much freedom than suffer the tyranny of too little freedom.
'Rights' are an invention. We all have rights, but just who's rights do we go by. Everyone has different ideas of what a right is. You see guns as a right in your country, that's fair enough. But from my perspective, it'd be damn foolish for people to own guns. I feel safer without them, as do the majority. If it works for you, then fine. But you aren't going to change my mind as I truly despise the idea of it.
"I would rather risk the perils of too much freedom than suffer the tyranny of too little freedom."
Me too. Funnily enough.
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." -Thomas Jefferson
