Gun Sales on the Rise: What's to Blame?

Guns sales are up. According to Good Morning America, sales throughout the industry are up anywhere from 30 to 91 percent this quarter, depending on the seller. Cris Parson, who owns a Texas store called the Houston Armory, says part of the reason sales are up is that gun-owners fear the possibility of Obama's second term because "he's never been pro-gun" and will have "nothing to lose."

But that's not it. Parson also blames zombies and doomsday conspiracies, trends spawned by television shows like "Doomsday Preppers" and "The Walking Dead." Of a certain brand of ammunition called Zombie Max, Parsons says, "We can't keep it in stock. It comes in a cool, colorful box with a Zombie on it." What do you think the reason is for higher gun sales? Is it Obama, zombies, doomsday -- or just an increased desire to own a gun?

No "all of the above" choice, which I would have picked.
Most real Americans can just feel that whats going on isnt right. They've been proven more than right with the current regime....oops, I mean "administration". The DOJ is a joke, Big Sis is stocking up on enough .40 hollow points to shoot everyone in America in the head, with extras left over. The EPA and the DOE are out of control. Just the things that they've been doing since day one has put millions at unease.
They are afraid, and rightly so, of this government. They are doing whatever they can to protect themselves.
Zombies? Not as likely, but might as well plan for that, too.

You said 'They've been proven more than right with the current regime....oops, I mean "administration".'

You had it right the first time; "regime" is the more accurate word.

Obama primed gun sales when he got into office due to his anti-gun stance. But if you're asking what's causing them to jump this quarter, it would have to be tax returns. I mean, specific cause and effect...

It isn't a matter of "blame". Gun sales being up is a *good* thing! The more guns are in the hands of the people, the safer we all are from tyranny.

    experts agree gun control works

I don't know, maybe just maybe it could be that crime is rising and some people for some reason do not want to be victims

Actually violent street type crime has been declining in the U.S. in recent years, however fear of government tyranny (not to mention the possibility of it) has probably been increasing.

lol or the fact that gun control has been brought up by government again... and pple are stocking up, because when it comes down to it.. they will take the guns away from the people who follow the "law" and only the crooks will have them. So any intelligant person is going to get a gun to keep themselves safe for when those tyrannic idiots in Government leave us completely defensless.

Here is why. 6 foot tall, pot-smoking, paranoid guy beats up shorter Hispanic guy in Sanford and Hispanic saves his own life by shooting the guy dead.

LOL! That's the craziest spin on that story I've seen yet! You very conveniently left out the part about the shorter Hispanic guy (as if height actually makes any difference in this case. Mike Tyson was shorter than all of the guys he knocked out too.) following the other guy, who was unarmed, through the neighborhood on a dark rainy night. That's bound to make someone "paranoid". If the shorter Hispanic guy had done what he was told to do by the 911 dispatcher, and stopped following that 6 foot tall guy, he would have had no need to ALLEGEDLY "saves his own life" in the first place, if it was even true that he was the one who was attacked, which nobody knows for sure.

And Zimmerman DID stop following. That is why he was going to meet police officers at the postoffice boxes. Go listen to the full tape on the Sanford site.

I did listen to it. He said, "OK", but that doesn't mean that he actually did stop following him. You also jump to the conclusion that it was Martin that initiated the physical contact, when you have no evidence to support that other than Zimmerman's word. It's just as likely that Zimmerman initially put his hands on Martin, and ended up getting more than he could handle.
  • freedom activ1 2012/04/13 14:02:12

The physical evidence does prove Zimmerman was attack. Read the police report. Zimmerman was treated by paramedics on site.
  • activ1 freedom 2012/04/13 14:10:06

It doesn't prove a damn thing. Just because he recieved injuries during the confrontation DOES NOT prove that he was the one who was attacked. That is just Zimmerman's version of events.

Activ - you are doing the exact thing that you are accusing freedom of - making assumptions.

Don't get me wrong, freedom is making a lot of assumptions as well, but my point is, don't call him out on it and then do the same, that's just hypocritical. Everyone and their mother seems to have an "idea" of what happened - NO ONE knows what happened, hence all of the investigations. Maybe Zimmerman started to walk away, and Martin confronted him? Maybe Zimmerman confronted him instead? Maybe Zimmerman just point blank shot him and said screw it? Maybe Zimmerman tripped and fell and shot him by accident? Maybe Travon threatened to cut him up? You see what I mean? A lot of maybes with nothing to support it.

Why can't anyone ever wait for facts before pretending like they know what they hell really happened and spreading information that may not be accurate?

    Just my two cents....
Ok, I'm done, I'm sure someone will flame something unintelligent and not backed up with facts, just spewing whatever they think sounds good or backs up their side....

Unfortunately, Sanford has removed the calls and the police report. But the evidence was pretty clear to me.

You are totally off base. What assumptions did I actually make? It was freedom that was stating things as fact, not me. All I did was show him that his assumptions were based only on Zimmerman's word, and that he conveniently left out a lot of details about the case in his description of the events. Yes, there are a lot of maybe's, and that's exactly what I was trying to point out to freedom. There are some things that we do know however, because there is a police report and a 911 call, but some of the things in the police report are only Zimmerman's word, and there are still others that haven't been released to the public.

I have not stated whether I think Zimmerman is guilty or innocent, precisely because we don't have all the facts. That's why I used phrases such as "it's just as likely", and, "which nobody knows for sure". Things could have happened exactly opposite of the way Zimmerman is saying they happened, or exactly the way he says they happened. We don't know for sure if he's telling the truth. If you can show anywhere that I have jumped to conclusions, and stated anything as fact as far as Zimmerman's guilt or innocence is concerned, please point it out to me.
  • Sildy activ1 2012/04/17 16:07:37

Sorry Activ, I got that impression because everything you stated was from the complete opposite position of freedom, rather than being in the middle or allowing for either or. I guess I'm just tired of the whole thing and hearing people on both sides insist that they "know what happened" when at this point, no one, even the police know what happened, you know? So I guess, I made a cardinal mistake - I assumed - doh!

Thank you for the respectful reply !

Its a combo of things, Obama being one of them. If we could, I'd like to have one in our house, but the hubby doesn't want one in our house. Usually, its the other way around.
