Body mass index signals if you're overweight, obese or just right considering your height. Some doctors have begun calling it a vital sign, as crucial to monitor as blood pressure.
But apparently not enough doctors check: A government panel renewed a call Monday for every adult to be screened for obesity during checkups, suggesting more physicians should be routinely calculating their patients' BMIs.
And when someone crosses the line into obesity, the doctor needs to do more than mention a diet. It's time to refer those patients for intensive nutrition-and-fitness help, say the guidelines issued by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.

Savious 2012/06/26 18:53:11+3OM-Freaking-G; BMI, really, it’s only like one of the worst tools in the world; it doesn’t take into account a number of factors, such as muscle size or bone density. A lot of people, who are very healthy, and have a relatively low body fat, blow the top off the BMI, because all it measures is weight to height. UMMM, Muscle weighs more you know, and thick bones weigh more. This has got to be one of the most stupid things I’ve ever heard of.

it isn't even in any form considered a decent tool ..
(doesn't account for bone density, muscle mass .. and just plain activity level of the patient)
Even my MDs are now disregarding this as a tool ..
for it IS Worthless overall ..
(most are not even obese ... we are far more active than others who are fully able-bodied .. )
