Government focuses on homeless Vets
While the GOP Tea Party led by Michele Bachman is trying to cut benefits for Veterans the Obama administration is working to help Vets that have been deeply effected by the economy and are returning in record numbers from Iraq and Afghanistan unprepared for a changed America.
ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The government estimates more than 100,000 American Veterans live on the streets any given night. The Department of Veterans Affairs has made getting them off the streets a priority.
Now they are talking with Albany officials about setting up an office here to help veterans who are homeless find permanent housing.
It is clear that life has not been kind to Colin Dale Bailey he describes it as, "Plenty tough. I cold. I get cold."
Cold sleeping under a bridge at night. During the day, he panhandles for money, but this beggar hasn't always had his hand out. "I'm a United States war Vet."
That's right. Bailey served our country in the Army. "I served all over the world, honey."
But he's disturbed at how Veterans like himself were treated when they returned from battle. "What did they do for them when the come home crippled, legs shot off. What did they do for them?"
But now, there may be help on the way. City officials have been contacted by Veterans Affairs who may set up shop to get Vets like Bailey off the streets.
Artis Hall is an Air Force Veteran. His life turned out differently, but he understands just how rough some Vets have it. "I thank God that I'm one of the fortunate ones. I had a job and I had a loving family to help me and a lot of the guys didn't have that."
But to know that help may be on the way for others makes him happy. "All the guys and ladies in uniform, we're brothers and sisters and anytime something happens to any of those, it will make me feel good."
To know that one day Bailey, his brother in Arms, can get out from under the bridge and cross a bridge into a new way of life. City officials say the office should open soon, and that two case workers will be assigned to the office here.http://www.walb.com/Global/story.asp?S=13929121
Now how does the Democrats and GOP feel about the Vets- watch the video:

+34A veteran unable to find work is the effect of this administration’s economic policies.
These veterans want to work. Passing legislation that just prints more money and then throws it at a problem is a losing worn-out failing strategy.
As a veteran, I reject the legislation.

While it is true that our vets always seem to get the short end of the stick, when did the GOP EVER work to starve the poor?
Democrats cut food stamps subsidy to bailout teachers unions
Care to make a point? If you are trying to prove that republicans worked against the Communist styled Socialists in Congress I think we all already know that, or there would have been no reason to HISTORICALLY kick out so many liberals last November and elect so many republicans to replace them. ;o)
End of point.
Democrats cut food stamps subsidy to bailout teachers unions
But the group that took the biggest hit were those people on the governments food stamp program which has grown astronomically over the past year as high unemployment continues to grip the country. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as food stamp program had their funding reduced by $12 billion dollars to help pay to prop up the teachers unions.
There are currently 41 million Americans dependent on the federal assistance program and they lobbied hard to defeat the bill, but were unable to get enough Democrats to vote against it.
How proud you must be today. /sarc
The message from the Democrat Party is clear. Support the POOR Teachers Unions. Starve a hungry American today! ;o)
But, in order to respond, you will have to make a cogent point surrounding a main thesis.
What you have is a snippet of information, unsourced, and with no real point.
I would welcome something further if you choose to do so.
Unsourced? Didn't you know that by clicking on the words colored blue that you would GO TO THE SOURCE? Give it a try. ;o)
I have only seen the underline type link.
I am very disappointed by cuts in food stamps as well as the cuts to heating assitance for our poorest citizens.
I am not a fan of most of what Obama has proposed or enacted. I do separate him from some other democrats, however.
I see things this way.
The republican party is 99% owned by corporations. The democratic party is 85% owned by corporations.
Obama is 100% owned.
These veterans want to work. Passing legislation that just prints more money and then throws it at a problem is a losing worn-out failing strategy.
As a veteran, I reject the legislation.
The GOP blocked bills that would have created jobs and any bill to help Veterans and only Obama passed bills for Vet benefits.
It is your Tea Party idiots trying to cut another 400 million from Vet benefits and if you want to live in denial sticking to your political party while it cuts your throat then just say so but don't blame the people trying to help Vets!
The Vets have most definitely spoken as a group against the Vet cut programs the Tea Party is trying to push:

How about, you take one of these veterans into your home and do a little hands on work.
And then help the conservatives get the government out of the way so businesses can start creating jobs.
I will be waiting ?
You are unable to launch an informed discussion.
You blame this administration for not creating jobs and then turn right around and say they can't create jobs ?
Show me ONE bill the GOP has produced to create jobs or help Vets ?
You are just puppeting what the GOP tells you and have never considered what each party has done for Vets or you would know it has always been the Dems that have fought for better benefits.
You are not to swift on the uptake and prove my point, “wake up!!!, the government does not create jobs”. I said these veterans are unable to find work because of this administration's policies. For those that are not driven by liberal psychosis, that is easily understood as this administration’s policies are causing businesses not to hire or create jobs.
>>>You blame this administration for not creating jobs and then turn right around and say they can't create jobs ?<<<
You are wrong again. Comprehension is not one of your stronger attributes. Repeating, WAKE UP!!!! Government does not create jobs, businesses do. Learn that !!!!
>>>Show me ONE bill the GOP has produced to create jobs or help Vets ?<<<
You are thick and stiff necked. The Government does not create BUSINESSES DO !!! Wake up !!! Breaking , you wear your ignorance well.
>>>You are just puppeting what the GOP tells you and have never considered what each party has done for Vets or you would know it has always been the Dems that have fought for better benefits.<<<
You are an economic illiterate.
* The Jobs Bill- Offsets the payroll tax for 1 year for companies that higher new employees, or people receiving unemployment insurance. Also gives other tax incentives to companies hiring new employees. Republicans attempted to block this. Small business lending bill- would give LOCAL, community banks access to billions of dollars to loan to small businesses. Republicans blocked this.
And blaming the Tea Party for anything other than expressing their dissatisfaction with our government over the last year is lame.
Where did all of that cash go???
Your blood is boiling because of a proclivity for government dependency.
You are arguing your point from an untenable position.
You think government is the solution.
Government has put us in our current situation. Why do you insist on repeating something that has failed time and time again? That is the text book definition of insanity.
Government’s role is to be limited.
You missed the point entirely
Get off your fat lazy ass and go help a vet.
Stop depending on the government. Get involved and do some hands on work. There are plenty of spare bedrooms in America to help these people.
