Government Fine Print is like a box of chocolates! Bailout agreement prevents Union’s from striking General Motors or Chrysler. What? UAW to vote Sept. 2 on Strike against Ford Motor Co.

Patriot 2011/08/20 15:39:58
The Wall Street
Journal is reporting that the United Auto Workers (UAW) is asking its members
to authorize a strike against Ford Motor Company in a vote scheduled to occur
by September 2.

While strikes against
the so-called Big 3 U.S. automakers, GM, Chrysler and Ford, are nothing new,
this year is the first where the union's and the federal government have a huge
financial stake in two of the three.

It turns out that Ford, the
lone U.S. automaker which said no to accepting a government bailout, is the
only U.S. automaker that the UAW can strike under the bailout agreement.

This is stupid How many people would be more that willing to hop into that job ..oh ansd they'd probably get to keep it too. Ford might be have screwy business practices ( some of their parts go out on purpose so we have to go back to get them fixed ...its always been like that) They keep people in jobs so im not saying a thing. Those recalls and quick fix repairs usually fall under the warranty anyway form what i understand since they recall them they pay for it or most of it from what i understand.

The NEW GM recently said it will not honor warranties on vehicles bought under the OLD GM. What a way to run a business.

When GM is no longer able to sell the vehicles they produce, production will either have to be slimmed down or stopped. Putting UAW workers on reduced schedules OR being laid off.

It is apparent that the creatures that staff the executive levels of (G)overnment (M)otors are so close to the forest that they cannot, or will not, see the trees.

My first car was an Impala it lasted for years. I loved the Olds but they stopped making them. My daughter has a ford and loves it. I will buy a ford. I have a chevy right now. Found out when I took it in for repairs that it was build at a factory in Korea that went bankrupt. Damn GM put their name on it. The last car I had lost a timing chain and it fried the engine because it was made in another country. The car had a sticker on it saying it was made in the USA. I do not trust GM anymore

Oh, wow! It's unreal that they can get away with that sticker thing. After I retired from McDonnell Douglas and moved back to IL, I worked in a little plant (as a temp.) that made weed eaters. That's been several years ago. They're closed now. A friend of mine, who also worked there, told me just the other day that the Manager of the plant had a weed-eater in there that was made overseas and had our name on it.

If I were to buy a new car today, it would definitely be a Ford - because they can manage themselves and didn't take the bail-out money. And, some of their cars are very pretty now. It's funny. With all the president's urging us to drive hybrid's and crap like that, there are very few cars on the lots at the 3 dealers here in town. Almost all pickups and vans - because that's what people want. (Not me, but lots of people drive trucks here because of the bad winter weather. I don't have to go out in it.)

Ford should replace them all if they strike. There are more than enough non-union workers to replace the strikers.

ON Sept.11 this year. The best part is that after the publicity had died away some, they asked one of the governments (city, state or fed) for "contributions" and I think they got some money. I mean, after all it IS a community center, isn't it?

I agree with you. I worked for McDonnell Douglas (as Free Enterprise) and the unions were always wanting higher wages, more time off, better benefits, etc. And strikes. We were sending jobs overseas - and the company ended up being purchased by Boeing.

I have thought for a long time that they are a contributing factor. I'm not sure if they're still needed for safety and wage bargaining or not. I know the Marathon Oil Refinery here in town is not union and they pay the best wages of anyone in town and have better benefits.
