Google Doodle Celebrates Gregor Mendel's Birthday: Brilliant or Boring?

Today would have been the 189th birthday of Gregor Mendel, the Austrian botanist credited as being the "father of modern genetics" for his early work in discovering dominant and recessive hereditary traits in peas.

That explain's Google's newest doodle.

Mendel spent much of his time from 1856 to 1863 cultivating and studying pea plants to help him outline how genes are passed on and in what capacity, eventually leading to his Laws of Inheritance.

His discoveries are still central to the study of genetics.

Emphasizing science and scientific accomplishments can only benefit a society reliant on reason, like ours will someday, hopefully, be.

Sounds like he was working for the UN. If he got the results before the question, lol.

He was an admitted fraud, who faked his research to get the results he wanted. In this case he happened to have been right, but that doesn't make him someone we should applaud.

Its something that shaped a large portion of our modern scientific understanding, making the world an IMMENSELY better place. Google does something great by highlighting fantastic pieces of historical achievements that might otherwise go unappreciated by many. Good work Google.

How is this in anyway boring? Mendel was a genius, and without him I doubt we'd know half of what we currently do about genentics.

Mendel is the Father of Genetics. The modern world should build a museum honoring this genius, who was also a great Christian.

Clone used to define horticultural experimentation; modern man changed that so that it is to mean "identical"; we all have different fingerprints, different DNA/RNA; different pupils in our eyes; nothing identical but I still love you.

Watson and Crick were then divinely inspired to reveal (revelation) that DNA is a double stranded helix.

Might it be that God gives us bread crumbs to find the secrets to the universe.
