Good-bye to my SodaHead Friends!

my2cents 2012/10/30 08:10:48
I'm just letting you all know that I am leaving SodaHead.

About two weeks ago, my computer got locked by the FBI scam while on SodaHead. In case anyone else gets this, there is a fix for it that you can find by googling "locked computer scam". However, the fix is for new computers, and since mine is older, we had to figure out how to get rid of it on our own, which took a lot of time and put our computer out of commission for days. I can't take the chance of that happening again, so I'm saying adios to SodaHead.

I'll miss you all, but keep up the good fight. And don't let the bastards get you down!
You!

I was on SodaHead when this ransomware took over my computer. So I'm betting this is where I got it.

I don't know, I was told not to revisit the site where my computer was hijacked. That's SodaHead. I've been on here for 10 minutes and I'm already getting nervous. I really don't see any alternative but quitting this site.

that is so sad. You have been here a long time and have made sodahead a better place. I don't want you to go. Can you just get better virus software?

Okay... If you have windows I can recommend something. I myself have a Mac.
We will at some time in the future ( Mac Users ) have to worry about such things, but not right now. Get a Mac! Can't afford it? Get a used Mac! You will always be better off... Always!

They have a free version... don't let it fool you. It is a great program and I stand by it. If you don't want to pay for virus-ware, this is the program you can trust.

I was on SodaHead when this virus took over my computer, so the safest bet is that it came from this site. It was a nightmare to get rid of.

Well, I had been on SodaHead for over an hour and left for a little while without signing out. When I came back, the ransonware had taken over.

If it didn't come from SH, then where?

The RansomWare you're talking about has nothing to do with the FBI or SodaHead.
It does flash the FBI logo claiming some crap about how you've broken the law somehow.
Call the FBI. The real FBI. They're especially annoyed because their name is being used.

And NEVER give out any money or use a debit or credit card.

These programs are vicious and destructive.
Sorry about your troubles. Hope things work out.

Oh, I know. It was an obvious scam, that was apparent immediately. The problem with it is that the program adapts quickly to efforts to disable it.

I like your term "ransomware". That describes it perfectly.

I didn't create that. I've read it in several places.
And, to state the obvious, if you do give them a debit or credit card number - nothing gets fixed. And the bad guys will clean out your account.

Without a doubt. The page my computer got locked onto said the FBI had detected activities relating to terrorism or child pornography from my computer so they had "locked" it until I paid a $200 fine. Too absurd! The FBI doesn't lock your computer and fine you for these activities, they bust down your door and arrest you!

But I can see where it would freak out someone who was peddling online child porn or visiting terrorist-type websites. So maybe they've been able to make some money with it.

Only $200 for kiddie porn. That itself is offensive.

Yeah, it said "pay the $200 'fine' or we'll start criminal proceedings"! I can't believe there are really people who fall for this stuff. But I've seen a lot of folks on SH who seem to fall for anything, no matter how absurd.

I'm kind of waiting for a conservative troll to claim when it came up on his computer it said, "Because of too much pro-conservative activity on this computer it will be shut down. Under Order of President Obama."

Twice sodahead has consumed my androids ability to function. Was it something I said? Anyway, I had to contact Verizon by the only means other than a phone call (I don't know why, I have unlimited minutes, maybe I just didn't want them to snag that!)by text message and ask for help, one time it was three days before droid could function. Goodbye my2cents, even if we didn't get to know each other.

I got this same FBI "Moneypak" virus just a couple of weeks ago. I was on Pinterest when my computer froze and was held ransom. I'll admit that it was a booger to get rid of. I managed to get into Safe mode and reboot to a safe date before the virus hit and then ran full security scans several times in a row. Finally worked but I was beginning to wonder if I was going to have to pay someone to fix it.
Make sure that your security program is set for auto updates (mine wasn't..don't know how that happen) and you should be ok. Don't think that SH is any worse for this particular virus than any other site but I certainly understand you being worried.
