In an effort to salvage some of its sagging reputation, Goldman Sachs frantically off-loaded
its initial $30 million investment (now a 16 percent stake) in Village
Voice Media, the firm that owns the scuzzy Backpage.com. The site, which
has been linked to sex trafficking and child prostitution, claims an
estimated 80 percent share of the country's online prostitution
advertising, which rakes in just over $3 million a month.
This
foray into sex as an investment apparently isn't a virgin venture for
Goldman: Twitterati are spreading the news that Goldman also owns a chunk of Adult Friend Finder, a "porn portal" that offers "real people real sex." So much for Goldman Sachs "doing God's work."
