GM sells 1,760 Volts in June, double from 2011. Have people come to their 'green' senses?

Quietman ~PWCM~JLA 2012/07/05 21:49:34
That would be NO, just more social engineering.

“Volt sales have been boosted by California's decision to grant solo Volt drivers access to carpool lanes. GM spokesman Jim Cain said 1 in 5 Volts are sold in the Golden State.”

I guess from Obama's perspective, it's a job creating win/win. The more Chevy Volts that are sold, the more firefighters have to be hired.

Or is it, that dealers are now dumping all these channel stuffed lemons at bargain basement prices so that they won't have to pay any more insurance or taxes on cars they didn't want but have been forced to take by the Obama Administration?

    chevy volt lemon

I'd like to know if any government agencies bought some of these in mass volume or if it was strictly individual sales. Nobody who is informed wants this lemon.

The Volt is less green than my 1996 Geo Metro. My car polutes less from the birth to death than the Volt. Just think of all the pollution generated by power plants to charge up the car.

It costs 54 cents to charge the volt in Texas where 20% of our electricity comes from wind power and we would have much more green energy if money and politics were factored out.
The Geo Metro is a great little car, both of my brothers own one, the problem is the size for most people. The new electric cars will get bigger and more efficient.

where are you getting the wind turbuine % number. I went right to the Texas electricity web and found only 20 days equiv from wind.

at most, 20 days of electricity was delivered in Texas by wind turbines 2011. that's less than 6%. You must have Kw charge under $0.06 per Kw. were I live each reacharge is over $1.50. Now where does that electricity come from? In the US nearly 60% comes from coal, another 25% from Natural gas. The Grid is already nearly maxed and say you take 1,000,000 people in LA with electric cars all being plugged in between 5-7pm. what do you think will happen? seems California has had a lot of brown outs over the years.

Real people with volts are finding well under 40mpg average factoring in cost of electrical recharge.

actually I do... this is the typical answer I get when the facts out weigh the irrational emotion perceived facts:

In any debate, liberals ALWAYS turn to personal attacks, redirect fault, slander, hateful statements, denial, or religion when they can't win. At the moment you see this occurring, you know you have them beat, now the hard part is to finish the battle.. Once these things happen then emotions take over and there's no logic remaining.

I live in Texas and I heard it on the news. I'm also the owner of a volt and we average 180mpg and plug in at work (company owns its own wind farm).

and how much cost/time of the '180' mpg does it take in fuel cost to recover the $40,000 the car cost? my 53mpg car cost much less. to the point the different in cost of a volt vs the the cost of my car would take over 30 years to recover the difference in fuel cost even at $4.50/gallon

There was a study done not to long ago and I believe it takes 26 years to break even on the Volt!

wind generatorpayback is in the 20 year range assuming nothing breaks. Plus they are known and proven to kill protected birds in California. wind is only online 20-40%. what happens if the whole country goes wind and solar? how could enough electricity be produced...

as for the volt how can poor people, that want to save the world, possibly afford a volt? I sure can't. I can't even afford a prius. but I sure can affort a Geo Metro that gives me 50-53 mpg and a Volkswagon rabbit diesel that ran 58-62 mpg and it ran great on renewable fuel (veggie oil) I made the mistake of using veggie oil from a donut shop. the cops followed me everywhere.

I wonder what percentage of American cars are sold in California? 20% could be average?

I think the Volt is an interesting car. Unfortunately it cannot compete with the Toyota Prius which now has a plug in model and is far cheaper than the Volt.

Hardly numbers to be excited about. Electric cars are going to be just one part of the solution to wean the US off our oil addiction. Electric cars aren't for everyone.

electric cars have been around for over 100 years. there's a reason we don't use them. Cost effective is one of the most crucial areas along with dealing with dangerous batteries and voltages. I'd rather have a leaking gastank than a shorted cell battery.

my car pulls over 53mpg. the car before that ran 58-62mpg which finally died at 350,000 miles. I don't need a $40,000 disaster to save the world. which actually creates more polution than my cars did from birth to death. plus I don't have 400V - DC of danger catching on fire.
