Given a choice, would you rather visit a private doctor or a doctor that is part of a socialist healthcare system?

We are in the process of composing a letter to our patients informing them that effective 01-01-2013 we will be on a cash basis only .. We will be terminating
all contracts we hold with insurance carriers and if your
hospitalized that will mean the on-call doc will be
taking over your care while inpatient. From what I
understand many private practice docs are doing this
    very same thing.

    ~ you can thank Obama!

They know me and my ailments. They spend time with me, asking pertinent questions. We have been having professional relationship for more than 10 years. I would not change any of my private doctors if I could retain all of them, regardless if Obamacare gets funded or not.

I like the idea of the private doctor who knows me by name and I can have a conversation with because I know them. Not some stranger.

If I get ill ( knock on wood, it's been 12 years) I would never trust a doctor who had to check with a bureaucrat before he prescribed treatment.

Before you get your knickers in a major twist, remember that Medicare IS socialized medicine or "socialist medicine" if you prefer.

This is what a doctor said about Medicare vs Socialized Medicine:

"Most Americans on Medicare also have some form of secondary insurance. There are limits to Medicare such as the number of days one is allowed to stay in a hospital, postoperative care, and prescription managent among other limitations. This is why most Americans on Medicare elect to pay for secondary insurance. Therefore, our situation with Medicare isn't the same as a true single payer system in which our society depends entirely upon one system."

"Socialized medicine is a system in which the government owns the means of providing medicine. Britain is an example of socialized system, as, in America, is the Veterans Health Administration. In a socialized system, the government employs the doctors and nurses, builds and owns the hospitals, and bargains for and purchases the technology."

But I think we may very well be on our way to true socialized medicine now that Obamacare has been passed.

Private doctors are better. I have military healthcare now...which is pretty much Obamcare. Our healthcare sucks and our doctors are substandard. Google it. Figure out what you are allowing into your nation. You don't want it, I don't want it, and it's FREE.

The socialist system the doctor's have to abide by the recommendation of "the panel". Even the private doctor's are forced to be inefficient so the people don't realize they are not receiving the best care in a timely fashion. Death is "built in" to the system as they anticipate many will simply drop out rather than wait for care. Funny, isn't that the "Change" we(not myself) voted for in 2008? Our healthcare system is about to go down fast and furious. Anyone remember the HMOs of the 1970's and 1980's? Wiped out within 5 years as Americans didn't like Big Brother saying no you can't see a specialist nor did they like not knowing who their doctor was. Ignorance of history is a guarantee you will repeat it.

I've been a health care provider for a while and I can tell you that a high percentage of doctors that treat Medicare/Medicaid patients are either new doctors or doctors that are unable to grow their private practice for whatever reason. When I first started practicing I saw alot of Medicare/Medicaid patients because I needed to pay the bills. As time goes on many doctors don't see these patients because the payment they receive for a particular procedure is less than 1/2 what they get for patients paying with cash or private insurance. In many cases the more experienced, successful doctors quit seeing these patients because of the low payment.

I'd rather not visit any doctor if I can avoid it. I really don't care what system the doctor is a part of as long as I receive competent care. Private care doctors are not necessarily better. Now as far as a system goes, I would rather it be private or non-governmental. Federal programs are rife with inefficiency.

Quality of care is the same from a doctor in England under universal healthcare, and a private one in the US.There is much disinformation on this topic, and in reality it is untrue that a private doctor provides better service.

I'd have to disagree with you on the majority of cases. In this country there are some good doctors that treat Medicare/Medicaid patients, but in most cases they're going to be new doctors or doctors that can't attract patients that have private insurance or pay cash. Most successful busy doctors in private practice are going to be more experienced and provide more in-office amenities than their counterparts that only see patients paid for by the government.

Though doctors under the universal medical plan should not be considered,or are,any less capable than ones under the private insurance plan.I have experienced both systems and seen no difference whatsoever in the quality of care.

If universal health care was not working in the many countries that have this system there would be higher mortallity rates. This is not so,and people in these countries are doing fine.It is the US sytem that is failing .You are mixing politics with medicine and they have nothing, nada, not one iota to do with each other. It is better to do research about these things instead of spouting off.

I would rather visit the doctor who has your interest at heart and not a agenda or money. Doctors can practice medicine the same whether they be private or not. I have been to doctors in the NHS and they are excellent and some are not, and some work both private medicine and NHS, sometimes money speaks and some doctors do the same job no matter who is paying.
