'Girls Around Me' Pulled From App Store: Creepiest App Ever?

Apps can be wonderful things. They can tell our friends where we are, upload pictures on-the-spot, and keep us connected with our loved ones from across the country. But all these things border on a growing fear that this technology might be used against us, and with "Girls Around Me," what you might call a "stalker app," that might have come true. Fortunately, Apple tore the app from its store.

According to the app's website, the program "scans your surroundings and helps you find out where girls or guys are hanging out [and] browse photos of lovely local ladies and tap their thumbnail to find out more about them." PC World writes that users were able to use Foursquare and Facebook to determine personal information and locations of nearby people, but Foursquare quickly blocked the app. The creators, SMS Services, are planning to release an updated version, presumably with an opt-in requirement. What do you think? Does "Girls Around Me" sound like the creepiest app ever?

I say no because the creepiest one I have ever heard of was an app that allowed you to take a pic of a woman (or man presumably, but they said woman in the article I read) and enter it in the app. If it was available on facebook or any of the "social media" the persons name and personal info popped up.

This one is almost as bad and both would seem to be an invasion of privacy.

Privacy is something we as a culture are losing. Just from simple observation of the news and other forms of media, can anyone really "trust" the general population?

That is really invading on ones personal life. I could see if this app has to be approved by the girl in order to get traced. Honestly, some girls would like this. I would hate though that a guy can pull me up & read a bit about. Find my location. BUT than you have 14 year old girls with iPhone or smart phones. Talk about easy target for the predator. Get rid of it!!

These apps are for socially retarded people who don't know how to make friends in the real world. I hate thats stuff, if everyone relied on computers to socialise (which many do sadly) then what will become of the human race, how low must people deteriorate?

It was only a matter of time before someone came up with such a concept. If anything, they should make an app that works like this but detects registered sex offenders in the area.
