German Court Makes Circumcision for Religious Reasons a Crime?

~ The Rebel ~ 2012/06/27 16:25:58
A German court has ruled that circumcising male infants for religious reasons, as Jews in particular have done for thousands of years, constitutes grievous bodily harm and is a crime, regardless of parental consent.

A public health specialist who is also a traditional Jewish circumciser called the ruling “stupid,” suggesting Wednesday that while “politically-correct modern liberal thinkers” would not be open to persuasion about Jewish values, they should at least consider studies finding wide-ranging health benefits from the procedure.

STDs are mainly found among the poor, because malnutrition weakens the immune system. Poor people in the USA are less likely to be circumcised, poor people in the EU are more likely to be circumcised (Hispanic v.s. Muslim immigrants). So STD statistics can be misleading.

Common sense tells us that both reduction of STDs and loss of sensation are likely if thin, moist, but highly enervated skin is removed. So both sides tweak science if they deny either.

Good. Religion rots the mind, and these religious circumcisions are done by filthy, unclean methods.

They should just say they were aiming to sever the baby's spinal cord. That would be ok with leftists.

Circumcision should be more important to feminists than abortion.

No, bearing children would obviously be at the top of the list for women.

Circumcision is cruel and unusual. It renders the male almost completely de-sensitized and unable to enjoy sex. Any health or hygiene "benefits" to it are debatable and totally redundant if you bathe regularly and use protection when you have sex.

Every male in my family is circumcised. Every man I've had sex with has been circumcised. None of them have had any complaints. Do us a favor and don't use botched procedures from a minority of cases. There's someone else on here with much better statistics for the last 150 years in America, with alarmingly higher number of men suffering from lack of getting the procedure. Not to mention the health problems they give to their partners.

Circumcision isn't necessary at all. This isn't a first century. We have condoms, soap and running water. That is all you need to have clean genitals and not get/give STDs. Perhaps the guys you've been with are good at masking their lack of satisfaction, because removing the foreskin IS the male equivilent of removing the clit. It's the most sensitive part of the penis. It's where most of the nerve endings are.

Condoms are reported to reduce the spread of disease (and prevent pregnancy) 97% of the time. We are less designed to wear constricting synthetic objects against our private anatomy than to minimize material that overlaps other parts of our skin.

In a religious circumcision, less is actually [suppose to be] removed and it's done when the baby is eight days old, rather than in medical circumcision at possibly an older date when healing takes longer and the procedure is more painful. Medical doctors, however, are better trained and have better equipment.

While many have gotten away with going without circumcision, wearing condoms 24/7 isn't a cure-all solution. You ignore nature in that we were intended to grow and multiply (expect a *higher* probability of getting cervical cancer from your uncircumcised mate), and the excessive material (foreskin) that rests over and constricts the penis. During an average day, sweat accumulates between these areas.

Since sex ed is, I believe, mandatory these days, (and search internet search results have gone drastically leftist the last two years or so), I'm guessing this shouldn't be a problem posting. You might find it interesting. http://vimeo.com/8102970

Insults aren't necessary (false comparisons aren't either, imo). The issue is very divided; but statistically there are a far, far fewer complications having a baby circumcised (and actually prevents serious complications later in life) rather than the minuscule cases where rabbanim have taken off too much and restricted movement, or where trained medical doctors wind up in a medical malpractice suits.

Since you aren't going to change my mind, and appear to have been hooked by the aggressive leftist lobby, this is all I have to say to you. Before being militant and believing your opinions infallible, you need to spend more time in the grown-up world. I recommend speaking to a wider range of men on the topic.

Why not be a good parent. As opposed to things like letting them not brush their teeth so they have to deal with the pain of rotten teeth and a later root canal as an adult.

If anyone's going to be envious, it's the child that has a cheesy, disease spreading penis.

And male circumcision does the exact same thing. The foreskin is nearly as sensitive as the clit.

The equivalent for men would be castration, not circumcision.

Over the past decade or so, studies have found significant health benefits from the practice, including a lower risk of contracting HIV-AIDS among heterosexual men, lower rates of infection from the virus that causes cervical cancer among the wives or partners of circumcised men, and most recently, a slightly lower risk of developing prostate cancer.

“Circumcision is akin to vaccination,” Ehrlich said. “It has significant benefits in preventing urinary infection in infants, with its small but not negligible mortality rate, in preventing AIDS in adulthood, in preventing penile cancer as well as cervical cancer in female partners.

Exactly. If you sleep with an HIV possitive woman without a condom on, guess what? Not having a foreskin isn't going to help you.
